Honduras up 3-2. Panama tied 1-1. US down 1-2.

At this stage (70 min) we're playing the US!

I think ideally we want Honduras. So we need them to win, US to draw/win and Panama to lose/draw. US and Panama beat Honduras in a tie as their goal difference is superior.

WOW Panama score in the 88th minute! They and Honduras now lead. The US, down 2-1 to lowly Trinidad and Tobago look like missing out altogether. This is crazy. Panama with that goal look set to go straight through and we will meet Honduras

Panama just hit the front in the 90th minute. USA gawn if they can't score in injury time! Honduras it is right now.

Mexico not doing their friendly neighbours any favours - guess they won't be paying for the wall now

Its Honduras for us. Crazy, crazy day of soccer.

The US with an even worse choke job than us right there. They failed big time.

Panama have won and qualify automatically.

USA have lost to the cellar dwellar - epic choke. Last time they missed out was 1986!

We're playing Honduras - phew. USA would have smashed us - Christian Pulisic is a star in Bundesliga and would have toyed with us. How the hell did they lose to Trinadad and Tobago - were they playing cricket?

So Chile have not qualified and they are a top 10 team in the world. Netherlands have missed out and the USA are out for the first time in 30 years. Like I said earlier in the thread, World Cups are not easy to make.

Epic fail of 97 socceroos proportions! We owe a lot to Panama. Until their 88th minute goal we were set to face the US and that wouldn't have ended well for us at all. We're still up against it with Honduras though but its the best we could have hoped for

Crazy. How did the U.S bugger that up!?

I didn't realise Chile haven't qualified? WTF happened to them?

Netherlands were ranked in the 30s IIRC. When was the last time they missed out?

Crazy 24 hours of sport, this is exactly the sort of drama and last minute trip ups that I love about test match cricket. It's ironic that Trinidad and Tobago were front and centre to al the drama.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

2002 was the last time the Dutch missed the WC. Not unusual for them to have a period where they are ordinary (or shall we say a transition phase between generations). The generation of Robben, Sneijder, Van Persie etc is over and they need to blood some of their young talent - not much in the age bracket 25 to 30 to be honest but some younger players coming through from 18 to 22/23. Who knows if they will make the grade though.

The period from 1982 to 1986 they missed out on two WC and a Euro.

The last world cup they were outsiders (around 20-1) to win the WC after a disastrous Euro 2012 where they lost all their pool games. They somehow managed to finish third at WC 2014, but it has been downhill ever since when they failed to qualify for Euro 2014 ending 4th (IIRC) in their qualifying group to Iceland, Czech Republic and Turkey.

They are currently in a huge hole. Actually they are not dissimilar to Australia at the moment where they are relying on one man to lead from the front - that being Arjen Robben. He scored both goals this morning when they beat Sweden (the Dutch actually played well - though the Swedes only needed to defend an 8 goal lead for them to qualify).

Geez we really drew the short straw with Honduras, one of the most violent countries in the world and San Pedro Sula is one scary city apparently.

Get ready for massive amounts of abuse, rocks and other items thrown at the teams hotel to keep the players up all night.

It ain't gonna be pleasant. It will be one hell of a tough assignment. If we can come away with a draw away it will be a great result.

Does anyone know the dates of the games or is that yet to be determined?

Not released yet, but the Aussie game is in Sydney.
