I am convinced the AFEL deliberately and wilfully convolutes everything they do so that all issues drag out in the media for days and days before being "resolved" to nobody's satisfaction. This strategy ensures the AFEL absolutely saturates all available media resources and doesn't allow any other sports to get a look-in, which guarantees massive TV and media rights money every 5 years.

Have a look at how the AFEL manages key issues like the tribunal, the standard of umpiring, rules of the game, goal review technology, standard of some playing surfaces, etc.. You cannot actually be this incompetent unless it is a deliberate strategy.

Specific to this instance, they are seemingly happy to wear the criticism from their bullshit confected outcome and their bullshit rationale citing some mystical "compelling medical reasons", knowing full well that these reasons will forever remain confidential and subject to zero scrutiny and accountability. They don't care - Dills and co will all get their 6-figure bonuses at the end of the year, on top of their 7-figure salaries. And outside of the optics, they certainty don't care about any of the important social issues they purport to care deeply about.

If there was a standard penalty for this offence and it was applied immediately (as competent leaders and organisations would), there would be fully 5 days of available media space for other sports to access. It has to be a deliberate strategy, so that every single dickhead can air their "hot take" and saturate more media resources.

I think the AFL have done a pretty good job of making sure no one is happy with them or impressed with their competency.

I've heard of you can't please all of the people all of the time, but can't please any of the people any of the time is a bold strategy.
