As poor as our performance was on Thursday (and it was extremely poor for mine - I don't buy into some of the excuses that have been made here by others), clearly the senior management and Bevo have already recommitted to each other. To delay this decision based on one poor result would be a panicky move IMO, and it takes the air out of the bubble allowing the club as a whole to focus solely on on-field performance for the remainder of the year. I'm also happy with the 2 year tenure - Bevo has largely focused on coaching and embraced the new footy dept structure around him, which has led to an improved on-field performance in the last 12 months. We have also significantly rebuilt on the run since the disastrous end to 2023 (risky strategy for Bevo, who was nothing if not stubborn with both game style and loyalty to certain players) - this process is still going but there have been noticeable improvements in game style and personnel the last year or so.

The club and Bevo are on notice though. They have to live their commitment with high-end performance, starting this Thursday night. This is a live season and we must chase it relentlessly without any excuses. I wasn't happy with Bevo lashing out at that dickhead Cornes 2 weeks ago (it was pre-game FFS, there's a million more important things to focus on), and I wasn't happy with his/our inability to cope with Hawthorn's pressure game - really good teams win when not at their 100% best, or when they are seriously challenged in-game when clubs successful take something away from their natural game. Until 2 weeks ago, I have loved how Bevo and the club have handled all manner of distractions/issues compartmentalising everything in a zen-like impenetrable bubble.

Injuries permitting, I fully expect us to be finals contenders in 2025, 2026 and 2027. I don't buy the narrative that we have excuses or mitigating circumstances - all teams have areas of weakness in their structure that can be exposed on any given day. It's high time to deliver on expectation.

I've never been too concerned about a potential coach changes but I do feel that extending his contract for 2 years is the right thing
With that out of the road now let's get on with it and embrace the short term future under Bevo.

Really don't like this decision, hope it's not on guaranteed money.

I guess I got to live with it now. Hope he proves me wrong.

Bevo signs on until end of 2027

Luke Beveridge has agreed to a two-year extension as senior coach.

          By Western Bulldogs Media

The Western Bulldogs Football Club is pleased to announce that Luke Beveridge has agreed to a two-year extension as senior coach.

The premiership winner will coach into a 12th season and beyond, having already become the longest-serving coach in Club history last year, surpassing Ted Whitten Snr’s 228-game milestone.

Since taking the helm in 2015, Beveridge has won one premiership, taken his side to two Grand Finals and 13 finals (both Club records), and holds the highest winning percentage (56.58%) among anyone who has coached 100 or more games for the red, white and blue.

Beveridge also claimed back-to-back AFL Coaches’ Association Coach of the Year awards in his first two seasons.

Bulldogs President Kylie Watson-Wheeler said the club is delighted that Beveridge will be continuing as senior coach for at least the next two seasons.

“The extension of Luke’s contract as senior coach is demonstrative of the trust, connection and partnership we have with him. Luke is a once-in-a-generation coach at our Club. His commitment to the Bulldogs is unwavering,” Watson-Wheeler said.

“The considered process we have undertaken has resulted in the unanimous endorsement of the board and the unified belief that he is the best person to drivesustained success at the Bulldogs. “As the game evolves, Luke continues to deliver a cutting-edge brand of footy and finds new ways to challenge and motivate our exciting playing group. We’re optimistic about the future under his continued leadership.”

Beveridge said he couldn’t be prouder to remain at Mission Whitten Oval into the future.

“It is the right time to thank the playing group and our staff for their commitment to growth and their willingness to explore their best and discover the possibilities outside of their comfort zone. The evolution of our people in recent times has been quite dramatic with the promise you see in each other starting to shine through,” Beveridge said.

“I appreciate the ongoing collaboration and support Kylie, Luke (Darcy) and Ameet (Bains) provided as we sought to establish stability and a meaningful strategic foothold that will set us up for our next successful period.

Senior Coach Luke Beveridge has this exclusive message for all our loyal Bulldogs members.

“I am honoured to renew my commitment to our great Club beyond this year as I endeavour to be the best leader, ambassador and coach that I can be for our people, our members and those who support us.”

Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains said the extension provided valuable certainty as the Club looks to build on a competitive first half of the season.

“This extension - the result of a considered and communicative process - means our men’s footy program can progress with confidence and stability as we look forward to the second half of this season and beyond,” Bains said.

Fantastic news ... speculation done and signed just in time for a four game winning streak. Forget the "cap" (Sorry JUH, did I use that right?) relationships with our coach are strong and we are finals bound again.

If we won Thursday, would you feel any different about the Bevo contract?

Magnificent news. Luke Darcy is a fantastic influence at board level. The only sensible outcome. (Would have preferred three, I suppose.) Well done to all.

This should be his final contract with us.

Hopefully it is a successful two years and we move on in good shape.

Important that the club keeps pulling in the direction it feels like it is at the moment, but equally important for everyone at the club to understand that results matter and if it goes arse up between now and next year, it’s all over.

                          Why?
If he is still innovative and coaching well and the team is still achieving, why should this be his last contract? Sheedy coached for 26 years at Essendon and was still winning flags in his 20th year. I agree if things go pear-shaped; but if he is still bringing us to the ultimate game (which he has twice) then this should not be his last contract. I'm very happy with Bevo at the helm and will continue to support his employment until he gives me reason not to. The AFL season is a marathon, i wish we were better than 6-6, but our next four weeks will have us at 10-6 and well placed to compete for the top four.

This gives an opportunity for us to keep building this year and have a real crack the next two, after a bit more development is put into certain players, others are moved on, and others brought in.

We're not good enough to match it with Brisbane and Collingwood, and it looks like we've been overtaken by GCS and Adelaide who seem to be more rounded than we are. All this top four and premiership window talk the last year or so has troubled me. I think we're on the right track, but still a ways off.
                            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

                              That’s a lot of ifs.

                              Sheedy was/is an absolute fraud.
                              He isn’t Sir Alex.

He’s most of the way through an extraordinarily long tenure, has done just enough to get this contract and by the time he’s done there’ll be an opportunity to put a fresh touch on what’s there.

He can have a trigger clause for a final, third year: flag this year and next.

Maybe I am in the minority... if your assessment is correct and we're not a top 4 quality team right now, why the despair?

He has this year and 2 more years to get us a flag. That's the mission. That's the objective. If we think that he has the ability to do that and Sam Power has orchestrated a list that is capable of fulfilling that, shouldn't we be looking at the next 3 years full of optimism and excitement? I reckon we can do it THIS year but now that he has been re-signed, we need to look at the bigger picture: we're at the start of a new "blend" (as Bevo loves to say), a "rebuild" (as others like to say), we need to have patience as the club sees out this new journey.

Be demanding. Be strong. But 2025 isn't the one last hurrah for Bevo we might have thought it was, it's now the start of the renewal of his plan to continue to build and strengthen this team to win on that final day in September.
