I am sick of losing close games though and whilst I totally get the "better the devil you know' nature of things, I'm not going to be excited about a new contract unless this issue can be resolved. We all talk about top 4 and finals and we all have excuses when games like the recent losses to Geelong, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Fremantle and Collingwood are interrupted by an occasional win.

I get it - I should count the Carlton game...but one win vs 5 losses doesn't pass the smell test for me...I could also mention the other 5 teams are all in the top 8 (well, 9) sides on the ladder...and the side we beat in a close game? Well...they aren't.

I've never been a 'sack the coach' type person and I'm sure this post will surprise a few people but something is clearly wrong right now. Good sides win close games - at least some of them. When the pressure is on, the best teams - those with the BEST HABITS - execute and win. We simply cannot do it.

Is this Bevo's fault? I actually have no idea - but it's happening so often that some serious questions need to be asked and I'm really unsure how putting pen to paper right now is an answer to those questions.
100% agree no wins against top 8 teams. We've just become better flat track bullies under Bevo, that's all. How much of this is Bevo and how much Lade, Pratt et al.

    We'll never know.

We need a scalp and the way the Hawks are playing at the moment I'm not sure that would tip me over the line.

This talk about Bont holding the club to ransom on Bevo's signature is wild as well. Perhaps Bont has a three year 2 million offer to North or the Saints. That's alot of coin.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Isn't is a bit early in the season to talk like this?

Last year we had wins against all the top 8 teams by years end. Let's wait till seasons end to judge the team

We didn't beat the Hawks, Power or Lions.

We did beat the Cats, Giants, Blues, Swans.

I'm OK with a 2 year deal and some sort of trigger for a third. So long as the Club has it in them to swing that axe that was sharpened nice and early if things go amiss.

Right now, it feels like the departure of Grant, addition of Egan and Pratt and emergence of Darcy as a legitimate star have breathed some life into the place and Bevo looks much better for it, legitimately has presented to the role in better shape physically and mentally.

But we need growth and we need results. The growth side of things is looking OK, we're back in a cycle where things are fresh and the footy is really competitive again. The results, that remains to be seen. I don't think it is unfair to hold high expectations. So 2 years, a trigger and a sharp axe gathering dust is OK with me.

Its important to be fair minded and optimistic, as I always am, so looking forward to winning the flag this year, and next, before pushing Bevo out to sea on a gilded surfboard to enjoy his time carving around a burning raft with effigies of Tom Morris and Kane Cornes and the Soft Cap.

2 with a trigger for a 3rd seems okay to me. Setting the trigger is the hard one but it needs to be ambitious not generous.
Considering, the way we play, the injury list and more importantly the development of some of the younger players in the group are the seasons why I'b be happy for us to extend him for 2 more seasons.

I agree with this but remember the context…an extension for the coach NOW when we keep falling over in close games…I just find it hard to reconcile. Yes - the team is still developing so why rush on an extension?

That is one way to look at it.

Forgetting the close games, we are in the positive side of the ledger and sitting in the 8. Of course top 4 is what the target should be. However, I don't think a coach can be judged solely on their win-loss ratio. There are many other factors in play.

IMO Bevo has earnt a 2 year extension with what he's done since mid last year - our game style and player mix has been invigorated, and his match-day coaching has sharpened up as a result of the restructure of the footy dept in the off-season 18 months ago.

Why can't we run the table for the rest of the year? And why can't we continue to make our Marvel home an impenetrable fortress for the rest of the year? No reason why we can't do both, much like Geelong did in 2022 after their 50/50 start that season. We should fear nobody for the rest of the season, and back ourselves in anywhere and anytime against anyone.

I think a big factor could be the wishes of the almighty himself in Sir Bont. If he's making noise it has to be bevo for me to sign, then it has to be bevo. Plus our form is promising - not peaking at all but showing some exciting signs - just hopefully we end up peaking when when it counts!

I said two plus a trigger (i.e. GF in year one or top four in year two). Has it happened?
                            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I'm fine with that. I thought it might be two plus triggers for a 3rd. But 2 yrs by itself is good.
