    That HAS to be hyperbole.

That or Cox has a very short attention span.
I actually think that would have been the most effective part of the session. They came out flat and were out hunted. Focus on the preparation for the game, because that will be the easiest bit to change.

In hour 6, when they were looking at an incident early in the fourth quarter...well, who cares? Of course they had dropped their heads and lost structure by that point, the game was over.

For the 2021 grand final that never happened, we could have spent an hour on the last five minutes of the third quarter. I don't care about the fourth quarter, and you would only use the first part of the game if you wanted to do a shit sandwich with some 'look at how good we CAN be and WERE that night...it's not all over...we were physically and mentally exhausted and let our standards slip, but can't let it happen again".

I just watched the first minute (about 10 mins in to this video) - Lions have about 15 disposals to 3, and all the Swans touches are under pressure with two direct turnovers. I think there would be plenty to unpack.

The day after that review, they did their 2k time trial. As soon as it finished, Cox surprised them with another 2k time trial. He's not afraid to go hard on them, probably because he has already built relationships with them over a long period. But that is a rough start to preseason.

Agree with you jazzadogs about ‘21 GF. From memory the rot started when Bont went off the ground about 10 or 15 mins into Q3.

He's going to send himself insane if he spends an hour on 1 minute of play.

I get reviewing it, but if you need an hour to review 1 minute of play, you're doing something wrong.

                  Yeah - cool.

The preparation is in the rooms with the coaches...are they reviewing that or a few contests?

Mistakes - poor decisions (with and without the ball) and skill errors - are gonna happen. I think you need to unpack it (a bit) but drilling into a game that happened 6-months ago to me seems like an incredibly negative way to start off a new season with a new coach. Maybe they could pump up the Brisbane Lions theme-song or blast some 'Country Road' whilst they watch it.

If there are a couple of trends you are trying to reverse...fine. But what NEW things do you think they were learning. "Boys - our play is to defend how? In-front and Outside. In how many of these clips are we in the right position defensively"...

Exactly how many times can you go over the fundamentals of your style of play (should be looking inside here) and structure (our talls haven't come up to provide an exit from this stop) before everyone in the room wants to jump off a building.

You can't write it off as a bad day - I get that, but for goodness sake it's folly to believe that this idea that drilling into everything that went wrong in excruciating detail is doing anything other than reminding the players that:

                  1/. They failed.
                  2/. They aren't good enough
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I actually get it if the GF is not reviewed in total. It's a new year , a new season, players have changed, work on weaknesses that did appear in the GF and build confidence for the upcoming season. Going back and looking at a big loss is depressing.

Surely the hour on the first minute incorporated a bunch of stuff like: "How did Brisbane set up, and what was our immediate reaction", "Did we set up how we planned", "What was our attitude, were we up for it, intimidated, nervous, unsure etc.", "How did we approach those first few contests, and how did Brisbane". As JazzaDogs notes, it was all Brisbane in that first minute and Sydney looked rushed and under pressure. I think it's pretty easy to understand how the 1st minute could go for an hour when you consider the back and forth they could have with the group about all these topics, and how they affected the game overall. Add in some weird motto being introduced about how they need to be "Up for the fight" or something like Brisbane were in that minute and 100% there's your hour. I think that would be relatively interesting compared to the remaining 6 hours which must have been torture.

I should leave it alone but you're not right

Regarding Bevo's contract ending this year, and I'm definitely not advocating for this, but would we/he be considering a Hinkley/Carr type handover?

I don't think we have an assistant coach that stands out as the obvious candidate for that like we would've if say Gia, Hansen or King were still around (I mean I guess it'd have to be Lade), but Bevo being out of contract could/would facilitate such a move.

I don’t think we’ll have an opportunity to tee something like that up and I suspect it’d be unwise anyway, for the reason you mentioned and the history of such plans often going sour.

it’s a care taker coach and disrupted end of year when we finally pull the pin OR, more likely (given it’s an unquestioned job for life) he signs up for another two years..

Honestly, who gives a shit about the first minute?

Analyse the first minute of our EF vs the Hawks and it was all one way...it's ONE MINUTE of a game...the score at quarter time was 3:1 to 4:3...8-points! Even if those 8-points were scored in the first minute, who cares...

I don't understand how anyone can be thinking that spending one hour analysing one minute of footy - when everyone in their right mind would say "Hey, it's the first minute of a GF - there are probably a heap of emotions rolling around right now" in a game where they got flogged.

Dean would get more value out of going back and spending an hour analysing ANY of the minutes from the 2005 GF when Sydney beat his mob by < a goal...because in each of those minutes I'm pretty sure you will find SOMETHING that impacted on the final result...Brisbane flogged them. One hour on the first minute?

Maybe spend an hour assessing what the midfield coach told his line at the q1 break 'cos they got smashed in Q2.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.
