Totally disagree with you on that Jack , if Bontempelli decided to leave, to me and problably the football world would mean he had lost faith in our football club , in our hierarchy , in our system , and in my opinion it would take us a long time to recover from that . No ( i wouldnt mind if Bevo continued with us) , but at the same time every coach even the best run their race at a club , the same old message , the players know whats comming most of the time and become complacent , so coaches all have a use by date , on the other hand when a player of the calibre of The Bont up and leaves a club it sends ripples through the club that takes time to recover from , so given the choice having to say good bye between Bontempelli or Beveridge im taking Bontempelli to stay every time .👍 3Comment

If that's happened before, please enlighten me.👍 2Comment

But when was the last time a successful coach at a successful club in a successful year VOLUNTARILY left to coach another club? It's that situation that I'm saying, if it occured, would be everything you describe of the Bontempelli idea. No coach has left a club that is winning football games, meaning your message is still being effective, and has full support of the board and the players to immediately coach a different club.
If that's happened before, please enlighten me.Comment

But it's still a bit different because Beveridge has still done way more for the Bulldogs than Lyon did for the Saints.👍 1Comment

Probably the closest possible example... and if anything, it sort of proves my point. The fact that St Kilda weren't able to keep him was hugely criticized and they've never been as successful since then.
But it's still a bit different because Beveridge has still done way more for the Bulldogs than Lyon did for the Saints.
If a toe poke didn't occur and a ball bounced differently Ross the boss would be a 2-time premiership coach, but Bevo got the luck with the most one-sided umpired GF in the modern age and is now a messiah.
I yearn for the level of consistency that Lyon got out of his team before departing to Freo.👍 1Comment

I seriously challenge this statement.

I yearn for the level of consistency that Lyon got out of his team before departing to Freo.
But I'm also talking about longevity and total impact.
Ross Lyon was 71-4-36 and Beveridge is currently 125 - 95. Lyon had a far better win percentage obviously but Bevo has won way more because he's overseen multiple rebuilds/periods.
In the history books, I don't think anyone will say Lyon did more for St Kilda than Bevo did for the Bulldogs.👍 2Comment

You can play the "what if" game with Bevo too and say he could have been a 2-time premiership coach. But in reality, Lyon got the Saints to two Grand Finals and lost both and Beveridge got the Bulldogs to two Grand Finals and won one and lost the other.
But I'm also talking about longevity and total impact.

I intend to post something I hope to be substantial about Bevo's coaching and who might replace him etc in the next few days but I wanted to share I've been impressed with the debate in recent days,
Varying views but exchanged in the right way. Thanks everyone.👍 1Comment

The point is, they are equally unimportant. What ultimately matters is exactly what happened.👍 1Comment

Seems to be some noise around about Bevo about to be extended for another 3 year. Not sure if it's just a slow week for the internet rumour mill, but its being linked to us getting Butters....👍 1Comment
