Gaz confirmed these changes an hour earlier than this. His strike rate in recent weeks has been spot on.

I love watching Dolan but he does need to kick a couple of goals.

In general yes, but Dolan is a freak who has actually done ok as sub. The kid just has "it" and I can't wait for him to get another pre-season or two under his belt.

Having said that, McNeill to sub. One of Dolan or Hynes as tactical sub out late in the game most likely, barring injury.

I'm pleased to see Hynes in, but where does he play? He's form in VFL has been on-ball rather than forward. Hopefully we see him with some centre bounce rotations this week.

It's nearly always one of the challenges when we promoted a combination forward or midfielder.

My observations in the VFL are that he is in accumulator when playing in the middle, probably most like Sanders. Being a bigger body, ultimately we'd like to see him with a bit more strength and explosion. Perhaps his better form has given him confidence to attack the ball and go for his marks, but I suspect he'll stay back and let the experienced guys get the ball first.

It would be interesting to know what the development coaches are focusing on for a player like him, as any first round pick should be a 200+ game player for the club.

                A question for WOOFers

Is it fair to say our depth is being tested at the moment which is why 2 changes after a disappointing loss isn't really being questioned?

After missing a lot of football Treloar and Darcy are coming in over the last 2 weeks without any real form so might have slow starts.
Garcia and Scott have missed a lot with injuries.
Harmes and JJ out for the short term, Weightman and Ugle-Hagan haven't played.
Duryea stayed a season too long, Coffield can't get a lot of continuity with his footy and Naughton is well down on previous seasons.
Baker and Poulter can't grab their chances.

First game back for a while, he'll be itching to ice the cake.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Well you made the prediction which is fair enough but then thought it was worth quoting yourself as being right when the team list came out!
I thought that was worth challenging so I appreciate the clarity.
At least we now have a better idea how you made that enlightened call

Stevo, if you care to look at the post responding to Aza - I explained it, I quoted myself because I was lazy to retype the names again. Not sure why you want to try and call me out - I don't get what you are trying to gain???

                          Next time I won't bother

The changes that were made were fair and reasonable and not a reflection of depth.

We bat deep, evidenced by the high proportion of the list playing this season so far.

Treloar and Darcy walk straight into any team without needing to play VFL and both can (and have) performed well immediately.

Harmes and JJ will be back this week, but have been well served by those who have filled their roles - Dolan, Hynes and Cleary. Two of those three will likely make way for those two premiership players. All three are capable and will return, when required.

Coffield has put together a good block of work and will push for selection, along with Jones and Busslinger, so the defence is well stocked. Add Gardner to that - he had a bad day at the office (he wasn't alone vs Hawthorn), but has been excellent this season at State level and I will back him if he gets another opportunity.

Jamarra, whilst being a star, has had Buku play a steady role. He continues to get better, but if and when Marra returns, this will only cause more headaches for selectors.

Poulter and Baker are playing well, along with Scott and would be walk up starts in many AFL teams. Garcia has also returned strongly and will be in the senior side soon, I would suspect.

Duryea has lost a yard of pace, but provides ample depth and experience.

Weightman and Arty's injuries test our small forward stocks - I'd say this is the area we are most challenged in - though West, Laith, McNeil have combined very well. Considering we are the highest scoring team in the league, the loss of Flea and Arty hasn't caused a huge issue it would seem.

So, feel assured that we are incredibly well stocked and well placed to win the flag, with a little luck.
