I would have thought that if there was a debutant they would have announced it already, so not too certain that Croft will play.

I like the look of this one. I could be talked into Gardner instead of Khamis but it's splitting hairs.
I think Gardner comes in for O'Donnell if he has an issue. Khamis might be seen as a bit more versatile/ as playing a different role.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Gardner seems to me to be the better option to keep Darcy up forward more and that he can fill in forward or back. I don't believe he losses a lot in the versatility stakes with Khamis but it's close.

I don't think we'll know until training today.

This is cool and all but are you omitting Harmes to be the sub, or is he the best option from the players left out of the 22?

Ie. are we picking Dolan over Harmes so we can have an experienced player as sub, but then cop an inexperienced one for the whole game?
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I think Garcia will end up sub

Does this change anything with our starting line up

Maybe a bit more uncertainty around the round 1 team?

I'm trying to pick the best player for each role.

For me, having some key 'requirements' in each role is part of trying to pick the side. There are only a few players on our list suitable for being the sub - Harmes is one, Garcia is maybe another - and it is a challenging role. I see time and again teams select BAD subs and it costs them...I don't mean 'BAD' players, I mean players who are positionally restricted and essentially when pressed into action due to injury need the whole side to be swung around. Hawthorn did that last weekend by choosing Frost...'lucky' for them they have Sicily etc but Frost is the worst sub imaginable...if it was close at the end and they needed run, how does that help.

That said, I like Dolan as a point of difference forward and chose him to play half forward because I think he's good...but I would not select him as the sub.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

So does that mean Harmes isn't in your 22, or you rate the sub higher importance than forward number 6 say?

I agree with you when you are selecting which player to make your sub that it shouldnt be just the next best player, more surprised Harmes doesn't make it in the first 22.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

That's a huge effort from Dolan, good luck to the young fella.

Huge from Dolan, massive surprise. I agreed with the perception of him as being a good pickup but thought he was too far back with injury last year and presumably strength/fitness to debut so early, or even have an impact this year frankly.

Exactly the type of player we need though so here's hoping he can adapt quick and develop for us.

                              Always exciting see players debut.

Dolan must have done a lot right given he only integrated into full training in the last 2 months.

I liked what I saw in the preseason games, inclusive of the VFL game. He just has 'it'.
