Re: Where to with Trade/Draft Strategy from Here?

The strange thing about Tutt going to Carlton is if he thought his last coach had it on for him then Malthouse is hardly the warm cuddly type.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Probably more to do with 2 years guaranteed than who coaches there.

I always thought Tutt was best suited to the forward pocket due to his lack of polish. His disposal under pressure is lowsy as others have mentioned already. He seemed to kick over his targets head quite often. If it's the goal umpires head that isn't an issue. Anyway it's up to Carlton to identify Jason's best position now so I wish Jason all the best and I hope his new team finishes last.

Tutt might play a few decent games, but he's no standout.
i think we will go past Carlton next year

It is in part for this reason that I hope we can identify someone other than Montgomery to lead us out of this dilemma as he along with others must take blame for this.

If as suggested Beveridge is a great identifier of talented support staff then this must be a big tick for him.

I would love to have kept both Jones and Tutt, moreso Jones, on for another season under a revamped coaching panel that hopefully will be more successful in developing not only our young talent but also what is now left of our senior guys and work on a structure that gives us some chance to progress..
I am with you in both instances Doc. Most of the players who have left knew we were getting a new coach so Macca can't be blamed for the exodus. I wonder what the real reason is. Like you in my opinion Jones & Tutt's best footy is in the future. I hope we are both wrong.

I see that Wright is now predicted to fall outside the draft top 10. Had we known that before we traded for Boyd, would we have taken the path we chose?

I don't think our approach would have changed nor would our focus on acquiring Tom Boyd

Agree. Griffen walked out, securing the best trade for him, and the biggest name trade in our history, I don't think had anything to do with where Wright or others were landing. Whom ever gets Wright outside the top 10 if he does fall that far, will be laughing though.

You've got to love the Herald-Sun, declaring Essendon the big winners from the draft weeks before it's even been held.

They may as well just make their online AFL section a link to Bomber Blitz such is the cheerleading they carry on with

                        I agree with that.

We have a lot to fix, a new coach to settle in, young players acquiring more responsibility, addressing positional weakness via the draft, and so on. It will take a couple of years, maybe a bit more

But I think our foundation is coming together quite well. We just haven't put the nice house on top as yet. We will soon.

My calculation is 6 (as you have listed) added to primary list.

It is only 10 removed as Austin and Greenwood were not primary list.

There still needs 1 more off to give us 5 live picks.

Yep, not sure what the hold up is. The last player in our squad is not worth pick 46 this year. Just get it done already.
