Re: 2016 Draft Watch
To me it's a long shot on a few levels.
He's been touted as a top 10 pick for a while. Can he really slip that far?
He's a ruckman and we typically wait for later rounds
He's from WA and we don't tend to select boys from WA with early picks.
We do have a need for a ruckman though and unless we really want a more mature player he might make us have a rethink.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2016 Draft Watch
Do not want English.
Skinny ruckman who've never played against men are not what I want to use our first round picks on. Ruck is the one position I feel you are just as likely to draft a solid prospect for from the rookie draft as you are the first round.
English is a bit of a different type of ruckman in that his agility and ball use is what sets him apart, but like Ayce Cordy and many others before him once you make him big enough to compete against men he loses some of his strengths, and like Cordy he may never be big enough anyway.
Besides, when people talk about how their cat is so great because it's practically a dog, I think why don't they just get a dog then? So when I hear a ruckman is so great because he's practically a midfielder, I question why don't they just draft a midfielder. Unless he's a really good ruckman as well, which I haven't really heard that he is, then I'm reluctant to use something of value on him.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: 2016 Draft Watch
More than anything, picks 18 & 26 obviously aren't at the pointy end. But the depth of players available has me excited about what we can get for our picks up top. And two late picks at 50 & 75 is the range where Dal does done some of his best work. I'm quite bullish about the draft and our picks.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2016 Draft Watch
Anyone have the list of our potential Category C rookies (if they remain non-drafted) for this draft period?Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2016 Draft Watch
From memory Ayce's draft was one of the first where father/sons had to be taken in the round where rival teams bid for them. StKilda (and maybe one other team?) said they'd take him early so we were obliged to use a first rounder or pass on him. In hindsight, would've been a great result to have passed and left StKilda obligated to use an early pick.Comment

It was just St.Kilda who put an official bid in and they had the pick prior to us.From memory Ayce's draft was one of the first where father/sons had to be taken in the round where rival teams bid for them. Re: 2016 Draft Watch
Last year we missed on Lobbe (thank god). So our equation in the end was Lobbe (pick 11) or Dunkley & Collins (11 for 20/21).
This year we missed on Hurley, and you'd think they'd have wanted 18 & 26 for the AA CHB. It will be interesting in the years ahead whether if/when we nail two very good young players (and maybe a free agent with the cash next year) as to whether missing on Hurley might be a blessing in disguise.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
