Re: Draft Machinations
But it does point out the risk we face trading down. I doubt we’d do it for pick 11. It’d have to be 9Comment

Re: Draft Machinations
With live trading introduced for the first time this year, the Tigers are believed to be considering a deal in order to secure Vic Metro MVP Bailey Smith.
Foxfooty.com.au understands the Tigers are monitoring a situation that could see the midfielder slip down to Port Adelaide’s Pick 10, which may open the door for the Tigers to jump up the draft order.
Richmond currently holds Pick 17 and has the capability to trade its future first-round pick. A deal would likely only get done if the Tigers could satisfy the Power and if the Power weren’t locked in to the Sandringham Dragons leader with their second pick.
There is belief around the industry that the key to unlocking such a deal is the first move between the GWS Giants and the Western Bulldogs.
Both clubs are set to orchestrate a pick swap, which would see the Giants trade up to secure Pick 7 and the Bulldogs trade back to either Pick 9 or 11.
If it is the latter, the Tigers would elect to swoop and try and do a deal with the Power to take Smith.
It’s understood the Giants have put in ample time and research into Smith, who’s one of the draft class’ most dedicated trainers and top midfield prospects.
But it’s also believed the Giants are eyeing off Vic Country midfielder Jye Caldwell, who could be available at Pick 7, with several sources suggesting the top six is likely locked in.
Adelaide has also been fans of Caldwell, but may look to grab Tasmanian on-baller Chayce Jones with Pick 8.
The Western Bulldogs would be more likely to want to grab Pick 9 rather than 11, not leaving the Tigers an opportunity to deal with the Power.

Re: Draft Machinations
I hate to want details, but what are we getting for that trade down from 7 to 9? The article has us charitably giving JMac an upgrade in the top 10 but no quid pro quo. Is the deal we get a highish pick back? Pick 40+? Pick 70+?
Edit: Pick 19 for 27 is a dangerous game if Quaynor, Thomas & Blakey all go before it and make it pick 22. West would be touch and go here.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Draft Machinations
we should ask GWS for 9 AND their 2019 1st round pick as part of the deal. Then give it back to them next year when we convince Kelly to join us. Just thinking ahead!Listening to Brahm's 3rd RacketComment

Re: Draft Machinations
Twomey is live blogging the draft. He thinks if Bailey Smith is available at 7 we will trade GWS for pick 9, and then take Smith at 9 (which is who we want, sounds too cute a bit). GWS want Caldwell who Adelaide at 8 will likely take which is why GWS may offer us something. Adelaide not interested in Smith as much.
Sounds a little risky, but if it works them great depending on what GWS compensate us with.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Draft Machinations
Yep, there is a real belief we will trade the pick. I wonder if it will be our 7 and 27 for the GWS 9 and 19?
Pick 32 would then be Rhylee West and after that someone like Turner and KhamisWestern Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Draft Machinations
Can Adelaide offer us a pick to not give ours to GWS if theyre both after same player?
That is can they swap their 8 and later 1st round for our our pick 7 & 27?Comment

Re: Draft Machinations
I'd hope that's the trade and West doesn't fall in early obviously (crucial if true). With Briggs they may like some draft points back, since it's unlikely we won't use pick 75 (around pick 63 after compo) having another early pick, these 100 points could go back to GWS to ensure its pick 19 we get and a gesture of good faith.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
