We have pick 13, but pick 16 after matched bids on Green, Henry & Macguinness. We'd have to rate Pickett at 16 or better and hope a family surname connection to the AFEL means he moves into the bargain category.
Daniel Rioli was a bargain at 15 but Jetta a reach at 14? You must rate Daniel Rioli much higher than I do.

What worries me is that so many exciting small forwards are found in the draft late/rookie (Cameron, Betts, Tippa, etc), that our first pick seems like a high price to pay. Happy to back our recruiting team in though.

Lewis Jetta has won two flags and takes kick outs for WCE, also has a goal kicking award to his name. Four games off hitting 200. For a mid-late first rounder I'd take his career any day of the week.
      Quick too.

If we rate him in the top 10 or so then I fully agree but do we really rate him that highly on talent?
We resisted temptation to trade that pick during the trade period and I'd say we have 3 or 4 players in our sights if plan A doesn't materialise.

Trading down the order just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Yeah that was my point, not sure why he was a reach compared to Rioli who has a fair way to go to match Jetta's career.

Agree wholeheartedly about value in the rookie draft. In the first part, that’s my point in a roundabout way it’s hard in where to place them. Jetta to me is a good in season player, but from memory his GFs are poor. So I hold his value back. Rioli at 15 isn’t to bad, perhaps not in the bargain category. If we’ve put the time and work in and think he’s a Cyril type as per the SA state manager, then I’m happy to back our recruiters in.

The last Phantoms of this month that I can find have Pickett around 33-40 mark.

If does in fact make it to our first pick, 16th name called out, would that make him one of biggest post combine bolters of recent time? (33-40 into 16) Other than maybe Tom Doedee.

Wasn't Clayton Oliver was around the 20's until the last month?
Christian Howard was a real bolter for us and he wasn't on many lists at all

Andrew Mackie was also a 20's something player, I think we wanted to draft him at around pick 18

Yep, Oliver for sure. I just read some 2015 later phantom drafts and he was in the 10-12 range and went at Pick 4. Huge bolt to the pointy end of the draft all post combine.

Great, just when I finished my years of counselling on Howard being our first rounder and wiped it from my memory...

I will never forget that night. The draft fell on my birthday and I had my heart set on Lewis Jetta at pick 15. Things were looking good until Sydney pounced, and to make matters worse, we drafted the one kid that didn't even have a profile picture loaded up on the coverage. Listening to the broadcast team try to scramble and provide some insight only added insult to injury.

Then we added Tutt, Markovic and Thorne...jesus, it was a shocking start for Dalrymple.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Might be cheaper than therapy if we start a support group for each other. Maybe starting out like 'remaining men together' and evolving to 'fight club'.

Other than another South Australian recruited to the Bulldogs...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

He was only working part time that year too.

Speaking of bolters - Andrejs Everitt is as much a bolter as Howard, especially considering we passed on Jack Riewoldt to get him.

Doedee as a bolter is an interesting pick up as 2018 justified his selection, he looked right at home.

Interesting comments in the media calling Pickett one of the top two small forwards in the draft, the other being Liam Henry. Weightman not as highly rated by recruiters as the BF crowd?

That was a quote from the South Australian coach so I'm not sure it's completely objective.
