Raak is 192cm defender, McPherson a mid. McPherson captained the metro u16 side but one watcher says he has 'no outstanding athletic attributes' which should see him slide.

I like the footage I've seen of Raak. Foot skills look good of both sides.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

So if Raak grows a couple of more centimetres, we'll be getting two KPPs in the NGA.
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

Guys can play as a KPP (just not on the real monsters and even then it's not completely out of the question). Especially in defence wher it really only matters that you spoil your opponent and not outmark them.

Dale Morris was pretty adept at halving a marking contest with blokes much taller than him because of his brilliant spoiling technique. He'd barrel into opposition players just under their arms, it didn't matter how much taller they were.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

In the modern era all defenders need to be able to spoil as they tend to hold position and just rotate through the opposition forwards anyway.

Our mid sized intercept defenders (Crozier, Wood) will eventually be replaced by guys who are 2-3 inches taller than them but play the same way (La Young, Raak).

The thing is these young bucks are getting so tall now, that you need to match them in height. You look at Lynch, Cameron, etc all over 200cm, and if they can jump and you are only 193cm, you have no hope.

Nice to see Keath at 198cm and Le Young at 197cm - gives you a fighting chance.

Keath and Le Young are not mid sized intercept defenders. They're KPDs. Different types.

Yeah, I know, I am talking height in general. I don't ever want to see a Wood, or Morris type playing on a Buddy

Technically neither Cameron (196cm) or Lynch (199cm) are over 200cm.

                    Alby Morrison?

Actually Buddy is one I think you can play slightly shorter on because he isn't a great overhead mark. It's his speed and strength that are the issue. Wood has actually played reasonably well on him, but obviously isn't an ideal match-up.

Ian. Alby would be far too old.

For mine, if you're playing as the no 2 defender and matching the opposition CHF/higher marking forward that's enough to qualify. We had a Cordy / Wood duo as our KPDs the first four rounds!

The counter to that is the success of Sicily at Hawthorn as a key defender, while being less than 190cm
