Maybe, but with Jones, Keath, Gards, Darcy and TOB we aren't badly placed. How reliable will Jones and Keath be given I suspect we were planing to manage them with some breaks during the year and that now might mean we have to look at it.
There were a couple of mature key defenders (early 20's) like Ethan Phillips not taken at the draft last year so there are some options.

I too want us to focus on pace either as a natural small forward or as a mid/winger.

We've collected a pretty good group of developing talls (plus Croft) so think we can put that on the back burner.

Would also be pro getting a real competitive ball winner type to succeed Libba and all, Jai Newcombe going in a previous msd is the perfect example.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I think that is the more logical approach but we could adjust it if we felt there was someone who could help us this year.

And if we lost all of Bruce, Jones, Keath, Gards, Darcy and TOB, then we'd reach into Buku, Buss, O'Donnell, and maybe even in Naughton. We arguably have more depth here than any other part of the ground, plus Crofty will join us next year too.

Yep, it's not quite panic stations but some planning on potential options should happen.

I'd still favor Soup's suggestion that we continue to focus on the best mid or forward with a bit of pace. The only exception would be a potential ruck man.

Clay Tucker has been in the bests 3 times as an average ruckman (Playing for Eastern ranges). A project type and wouldn't be ready to play this year. The Geelong VFL kid is going ok too.

Plus O'Brien and Darcy at a pinch. We also don't even know how long Bruce is out for, hopefully he will be available by mid season.

It's doubtful anyone brought in mid season will have an immediate impact anyway. Agreed that jumping in early on an over age player is the percentage play.

Croft is playing KPF/second ruck. Ignoring the fact his dad played full back, is there any indication he would be any good in defence?

As for the MSD, best available imo. Ideally we hope that someone like Jai Culley in 2022 emerges who is tracking as a potential first round selection in the national draft, but we get in early.

That is they type of scenarios we might explore. Get someone into the system a bit earlier and give them additional time to develop.
I'd still like to see someone like Will Elliott being looked at.

Pretty sure last MSD was ruck-heavy.
If we don't target a Footscray player, perhaps Cory Preston (who was on our radar) is in the frame?

I just remind people, TOB and Buku are not a KPDs, Jones and Keath are 30 plus (as is Bruce), Buss is a kid as is Darcy.

We knew all that at the trade and draft periods, are you suggesting that given the Bruce injury we need to try and find another KPD at the mid season draft?
