Re: Mid Season Draft 2023 Discussion

I liked Marty Hore at Melbourne, and not certain I’m remembering this right but think he only really lost his spot due to a weird extended illness? If he’s fit he could be a decent plug and play option.

I agree it's a near certainty that we are taking at least one pick and if we were to move JJ to the long term injury list we might consider taking two.
I know Akemanis really rated Shaun Mannagh a few years back but he's 25 now and must be on his last chance to be picked up.

I like that they all potentially offer something role wise at AFL level. Becoming very hard to make it as a pure inside mid. Think teams are doing with more flexible players to support with clearances, rather than slower inside mid types who have to spend a fair chunk of time forward.

Hore that KPD3 type role. Someone said is it much of an upgrade on TOB. If we get another TOB level player, I think that's a bit with a MSD pick.

Poulter, I like having taller wings who can impact marking contests. Seems hard at it. Feels like he is the type of guy who can be a sub or replace a few guys if need, fill a gap.

Mannagh, I know nothing about until i just googled. Apparently has great endurance, I think again suited to possibly playing a role on wing/high forward.

Wednesday next week. They're expecting about 15 players to be drafted and a few clubs might opt for more than 1.

That seems to ring a bell with me.

Poulter and Hore could potentially slot into the side quickly if necessary.

Poulter can at times look brilliant with his kicking being a feature but he also tends to have a low margin of error with some of those kicks that can burn the side as well.

Hore has been trialed at a few clubs over the years and at 27 you have to wonder if he is genuinely good enough now. If it was just for the balance of the season perhaps that wouldn't be a problem for us.

                    So we're looking at

                    Hore- Intercepting Defender
                    Poulter- Wing and Running Defender
                    Mannagh- Goal kicking Midfielder

I could see us potentially moving Roarke to the LTI since it seems that he has been 3-5 weeks away the entire season. Foot injuries can be persistent things.

Roarke will be back in the mix soon enough. He completed a solid session on Wednesday.

That's good, foot injuries are often career altering and can be hard to heal up from because it turns out feet are really important in football.

If they move anyone to the LT injury list it will be JJ but I think we will only take a player if the one we want is still available.
I can't see us taking a player just to fill the numbers given we got a bit of a free hit with O'Donnell.

Interesting point raised in the article, there may be some value with some players in the 19-21 year old bracket that missed the game time due to covid
There was a good article on Parnell of adelaide, being injured and covid shutting down games
Caminitti of stkilda is another good story

I hope we can get some talent via rhe mid season draft

It pretty much confirms we will only take one selections so will not move JJ to the LT injury list. Just a guess but it sounds like we have our focus on Poulter.

In the midseason draft I feel like we need to target a big bodied midfielder. In previous games this season big bodied midfielders like Petracca, Tom Green, Matt Rowell, etc have got a hold of us and we have not had players that are strong enough that are able to stop/stand up to them since losing Dunkley. Does anyone have any suggestions on players who have nominated for the mid season draft that may fit this position/build?
