I did read that Port had interest in him especially being an SA lad and they have picks before ours, sounds like both Sellwood and McKinlay would be a nice fit but we may only end up with one, my guess would be Sellwood first if still available then the small forward second as there are a few options for that type, Ranch, Raso.

May slipped past all the rumoured clubs most likely to snap him up before the Pies.
Haha, two picks to go- enter Essendon. Nobody had linked them to him but it is such an Essendon play- maybe their recruitment should just continue to be “spend all our resources trying to work out who other clubs want and take them first”.Comment

One more pick to go. Mackinlay still on the board.
Port might take whatever small we want (Mackinlay or otherwise) though.
Edit- Yep, Port took Mackinlay.Comment

Yeh I reckon they know longer term we’re set up forward with Weightman, West, Hynes, Dolan etc. This shores up our backline for life beyond JJ and Duryea👍 1Comment

I think they nailed the MSD.
With Weightman back next year, Dolan and Hynes coming through, the greater need was HB and intercepting, Sellwood first was spot on.
If Mccinlay was available, then would have suited the 2nd pick to, however, you don't always get what you want, and grabbing another intercepting type, at 19, who would have likely have gone 30-40 in this years draft, smart shopping.👍 2Comment

Very happy with these pick ups, Selwood in particular - I honestly think he’ll play this year he looks ready to go, body’s already ready and there’s a spot for him. Really like the look of him, competitive, strong in the air and a nice long kick. If he can come in and play a role in the backline in and start to take over from Doc we’re laughing.
Really wanted McKinlay with the second which was a shame but Walker looks good too, don’t know much about him but definitely fits a need and I like going early on a 19yo - feel we have overlooked this avenue in past years, it’s a bit of a free hit, especially after a strong draft last year.
As others above have said we have Dolan & Hynes coming through in the front half, and the backline is aging. Walker, Selwood along with Jacques & Buss who I both really rate - hopefully goes a long way to building some youth coming through in a line that can trouble us at times. With Sellwood and Jacques looking bit more utility and aerial threats, now I just want a real speedster next to come through under Jj.
In the front half would still love a high quality small forward this year, preferably a classy finisher/crumber type.👍 1Comment

Selwood's body looks pretty well ready so it'll just be a matter of running capacity I guess. Should be up to speed in a month or so. From the short vision he seems to find a way to either get himself into the contest and then stay involved. Bit to work with.
Reckon it's a big ask to pick up a small forward mid-season with any expectation of them having an immediate impact. The position's too complicated and team specific, while the running is off the charts at senior AFL level. Feel we're better off putting time into developing quality in that area over a full preseason and more.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Also good call on the small forward part - you’re right, haven’t really thought of that before but it would be an absolute whirlwind trying to learn the running patterns of the team midseason. Think HBF is one of the very few positions you could realistically pick up team specifics pretty quicklyComment
