Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft

Been reported that we are keen on Jack Martin from Western Australia in the GWS mini draft. Does anybody know much him? Described as a line breaker with damaging skills. I'm guessing that would mean trading a high pick?

At least one of our two first rounders - perhaps both!

Would fit needs and best available at pick 6.

Toumpas at 5 and Martin at 6 would be just about perfect.

How does this mini GWS draft work? They grab the best talent not eligible until next season and then trade them out?

                    Best available at pick 1.

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft

It appears that Gold Coast and Melbourne are also interested in the two potential mini-draft guns (Hogan and Martin).

I wonder if we make a play for either of the picks 1 or 2 in the mini-draft would we chose either Martin or Hogan, depending on who was available? If we only want Martin, we probably have to make sure we get pick 1 to be safe.

What would you consider a fair deal with GWS to secure him?

                        - 1st round pick and Reid compo pick

                        - 1st round pick and 2nd round pick

                        - 2x 1st round pick

No idea. It will be an open competition between 17 sides...whoever wants him the most will get him. If GWS don't like the compensation, they will simply not trade the pick, finish last again in 2013 and pick him anyway...or that is my read on what will happen.

Sure - the AFL will be annoyed that they aren't using all of the concessions granted them but if they believe Martin is a 1 in a generation player then I guess it is worth taking the chance.

Interestd in people thoughts on possibly taking a kid who wont be able play senior footy next year?

Personally i dont have an issue with it, but with some of the frustration on the forums here at the moment maybe a shorter term perspective in recruiting might be what's required.
