I agree Richmond will have to offer up more. There's rumours going around they may offer up Nahas.

Nahas has been thrown around for weeks.
Agree, GWS need a sweetener for that deal to occur.
Looks like the kid is homesick.

I still don't think that would be enough.

It's hard to see all three parties walking away from the deal happy.

Surely GWS would prefer picks 5 & 6, coughing up Martin and Hogan/Anderson as opposed to losing Tyson and gaining pick 5, 6 and Nahas.

GWS would probably prefer that, the question is do we? I get the impression we are not overly keen on Hogan and I'm not sure I would want to spend picks 5 & 6 on two 17 year olds anyway. The Anderson deal I obviously like (and we could get a pre listed player with it also), but I just get the feeling we want to keep one top 10 pick for the draft.

            I guess we'll soon see.

I hope we play GWS and Richmond off each other. No doubt GWS will be unhappy with Tyson/Richmond and will want to make it as difficult as possible. In this scenario, we could 'help' them out by offering pick 5 & 6 for either Martin/Anderson or Martin/Hogan. This would almost ensure the Tigers would not be able to throw up enough to secure Tyson.

On the flip side, we could perhaps demand something from Richmond (pick upgrades?) if we're to 'help' them out. Or like I posted above, getting GWS to throw in something extra is worth exploring hard too.

I think we're in the best position, personally, if we play it right.
Sorry to ask - who's Anderson?

JED Anderson is likely to be Northern Territory’s greatest prospect heading into this year’s AFL draft.
He’s an exciting goalkicking midfielder who is zoned to GWS and played a few TAC Cup games with the Giants before opting to go home to Darwin.
The left-footer is certainly a chance to be taken by GWS once more but is not guaranteed. Still, you can’t see too many other teams that would pass on him if the Giants decided to shun him.
The 18-year-old, who was awarded NT’s MVP, has a strong work ethic and is exciting on the run that makes him a top prospect.

Re: Dogs Keen on Jack Martin in Mini Draft

Martin to the Bulldogs got a run from a caller on SEN this morning. I was doing something else and couldnt listen properly but I think he said we were planning on swapping 6 and 7 for an upgrade in the minidraft and pick 3 in the draft proper.

It was a Melbourne supporter who called in with the information BTW.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

One proposition being floated in the media is 5 and 6 to GWS for MD pick 1 and pick 9 in the draft (which is currently Richmond's pick.) That would be the equivalent of pick 5 and a 3 pick downgrade of pick 6 in exchange for MD pick 1.

Maybe that's what the caller was referring to?

My concern is why we paying such a high price say 2 top 10 picks for a player we get next year as I don't see us doing so well in 2013.

It might have been. I could have heard him say '3 pick downgrade' and thought he said pick 3-as I say I was doing something elkse and couldnt give it my full attention. That makes much more sense anyway.

I think the idea with the proposed trade is that GWS only get 1 pick from us (pick 5) and we swap pick 6 for pick 9.

Whether Gold Coast bids for Viney later this week probably will have quite a lot of bearing on who bids what for the mini-draft picks, so I won't be getting to worked up about how we use our early picks until that is settled.

I can't see GC not bidding for Viney myself, they're very light on for strong bodies and will be even weaker for losing Caddy. It makes sense from a strategic point of view for GC to bid for Viney, but I think structurally he'd also be a great get for them.

SportNewsFirst is reporting that Gold Coast interviewed Viney and told him that they will be bidding for him with pick 2. Take that with a grain of salt given the source though.
