I watched Unorthodox due to BAD (thought we had similar tastes after reading a bit here). Amazing. Esty is an amazing character played perfectly. I am rarely so immersed.

    Onto Dark now.

Amazing acting by all the cast, fantastic story line, extremely powerful scenes, complex characters and parts that were extremely uncomfortable to watch.

I agree with BAD, one of the best dramas I have seen in a while.

Glad you enjoyed it. Shira Haas is brilliant as Esty.

Have suspended Tiger King about 5 eps in. Am a couple of eps in Ozark s3, which is more promising than I expected. Also watched 4 eps of S2 ofSunderland Til I Die yesterday, because that is seemingly right in my wheelhouse.

Watched The Pharmacist & The Stranger a few weeks back. I enjoy documentaries so The Pharmacist was a good watch.

I thought Unorthodox was terrific, I may read Deborah Feldman's memoir too. Apparently the New York stuff was based on her book, but the Berlin story was fictional (in real life, she ran away with her young son).

After Unorthodox I watched One of Us, which was a documentary film about three other ex-Hasidim. It was so sad. Unlike Unorthodox, there were no happy endings for these three -- a 32 year old woman with seven children escaping domestic abuse, a teenager who'd been sexually abused by someone in the community, and a man trying to make it as an actor in LA, living in a trailer and very lonely. It was a real lesson in the power of a tight-knit community, to provide support & belonging, but also to cause terrible damage.

I think all three main characters were brilliant.

Amit Rahav as Yanky and Jeff Wilbusch as Moishe also had their own demons to battle, not to dissimilar to Esty, but not to the same extent.
The more I think about it they are not as obvious but they are still there.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Agree, they were. Did you watch the making of the series? Also good to see some behind the scenes stuff.

Anyone else looking forward to The Last Dance, the Michael Jordan doco series that starts on Netflix tomorrow? It’s 10 parts, so promises to be very in depth

Ummm I guess you could say it’s like a darker, German version of stranger things.

There are some similarities that are immediately obvious (i.e. small town, some kids initially banding together to understand the disappearance of other kids, suspicions around a government/utility type facility), but that's pretty much where it ends.

I love Stranger Things, but in essence it's a feel good TV show about friends sticking together with some death and horror thrown into it. Dark is isn't a supernatural death and horror show, it's a show about the desperation and torment of a small town stuck in a time loop that is seemingly unable to be changed irrespective of the best efforts of the townsfolk involved.

Where Stranger Things is corny and a bit quirky, Dark is twisted and confronting.

Don't watch it with English dubbed over the top!

Oh cool. Stranger things lost me with the 80s nostalgia and romantic relationships I didn't care about but this sounds better.
