I fall squarely in preferring the latter category, but then I’m an incredibly shitty guitar player.

Some might enjoy Clapton’s guitar playing and I’m not denigrating that, as much of my opinion is coloured by the fact that he’s a cock and I struggle to move past that fact.
    Clapton = over rated

Loved New Order last night at Myer Music Bowl. Decided to pay extra for seats and ended up getting seats near the front. Bloody loud but a great show. There was a stuff up for the first couple of songs with the sound engineers turning up the music so loud the speakers were crackling and we couldn't hear the voices. They finally got it right and sorted it out for the rest of the 2 hours.

Good mix of ages in the crowd with not only us oldies from the 80s, but plenty of younger fans. They played quite a few Joy Division songs including of course Love will tear us apart to finish the night.

Went to Durand Jones & Indications performance at Forum last night. Sound was excellent and they were terrific. Durand is a real showman and has an amazing voice, almost a hybrid of Marvin Gaye, Barry White and James Brown (drummer also a very good voice, falsetto like Smokey Robinson). Like BAD’s New Order show, mix of ages; mainly young hipsters with a few oldies. Well behaved audience too.

They are performing again at espy this Friday with a few other groups, however as it’s part of F1 festival I think audience & vibe will be a bit different.

So my son flew to the uk on the 24th of Feb to play at Wembley arena with king parrot as a support band for Pantera . He has since been playing all over Europe and loves the van life . Sadly not seeing much as it’s a huge tour in different countries everyday . Germany is the country they are playing in the most but it’s hectic, one trip was from Vienna to Innsbruck then the next day back to Slovakia . 7 to 11 hour drives . He finishes on the 22nd of march in Prague. His main band is choof and they are playing Melbourne without him and I’m proud to say choof fans are saying it’s not the same without him . A proud father here .

That's awesome mate! It's weird how something can go wrong with sound after the changeover from the support acts.......glad it got back on track quickly but often you remember the start of a gig, a bit of the middle and the finish clearly, with the rest fading away so it's still a bit of a shame.

Which tunes were the highlights? I always find that some you underrate translate live a lot better than they do from the studio, any surprises?
              TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Amazing experience for him. No wonder you’re proud. What instrument does your son play?

The version of Blue Monday, was incredible live. Of course their well known songs like Bizzare Love Triangle, True Faith were excellent. I don't like their version of Love will tear us apart, although it was good, you can't help thinking of the original. One thing I will say at age 69, Bernard Sumner's voice has deteriorated. Overall an enjoyable night.

                      Thanks Ledge.

Such a key, under rated instrument. Good on him. After having watched some music docos (dancing in shadows of Motown, Carol Kay/Wrecking Crew etc) I now actively listen to music keeping an ear out for bass lines.

When I saw Herbie Hancock last year, the opening act was Marcus Miller who is probably one of the best bass players I have ever seen.

Yeah, Marcus Miller is amazing. So is Herbie. One of the last if not the last of that golden Jazz/funk/soul generation.

Bought myself a Fender bass today, got an amazing deal at Derringer Adelaide after being alerted to a sale by a friend. When I graduated from uni I said I'd take up the instrument again......I graduated eleven years ago!!!!!

So it's about time, looking forward to getting back into it.

There's only one bass line you need to know, and it's ..... (Insert line here).

My answer is "Would" by Alice in Chains. That's a rumbling heart starter for me.
