Went and saw Ian Ball and Bet Ottewell (Gomez) the other night. Damn good show.
Gomez are always awesome, but this was mostly stripped back with the two of them and there were some great tweaks. The show was a Bring It On/Liquid Skin anniversary focus.
As an aside, the support act Buddy (from Portland, Oregon) was also very good. The three of them have actually started a little side project and have an album only available on CD.
We missed Pixies as we were getting dinner, but I've seen them a few times already.
I love Do the evolution too and my my wife asked which song I wanted to see and I said that one, didn't disappoint.
Alive was my highlight though.
EV did have the rambling old man vibes going a bit. But we forget how old we are haha
Ah nice. Alive was great. Yeah missed Pixies too unfortunately.
Enjoy Monday Jee. They're the full blown arena rock band now and handle it well.
We had nose bleeds and the sound around Marvel was still great.
I got offered a free ticket to see The Amity Affliction supported by Ice Nine Kills. Not my usual style that?s for sure, but I ended up enjoying myself. The energy from the crowd at a metal concert is pretty cool.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.
Soooo.....I'm not going to say it was the best of the night, but Do the Evolution was bloody good. I think because it also comes with an amazing concept based film clip that translates to stadium visuals it really stands out. My mate and I talked about how ahead of its time the clip actually was for 1998.*
Had always had something else on when PJ played here, or just not appreciated how much I love the music from that part of my life so didn't prioritise seeing them. **** they were good for a bunch of oldies. As frightful as Ed looks, his voice is still magnificent and the rest of the band doesn't phone it in at all.
Unfortunately we didn't get Jono Brown tonight. However, we did get Hunters and Collectors Throw Your Arms Around Me in the encore, plus Rearview Mirror, Black and Daughter which apparently weren't played Saturday. Missing out on Elderly and Corduroy was a bit disappointing, would have killed to hear Immortality.
Sound was a bit washy, if I'm honest. The percussion wasn't strong enough which meant the strings were a bit too much with the vocals, but.....it was a stadium gig and they did it well all up.
Hope everyone else who went enjoyed it as much as I did. Mates I attended with who had seen PJ many times thought it was a really good effort. I guess one of the benefits of bands not making much out of records these days is they have to really nail their live shows.
*If I had to nominate the best of the evening it was probably Even Flow. Massive sleeper of a tune. Hearing Black into Rearview mirror was special too, the former being especially technical in that setting was good to see pulled off reasonably well.
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.
