Re: Best Eats in Melbourne
More and more I think the best value for money is in the second and third tier of restaurants, some of which allow you to bring your own wine.
My partner and I rocked up to Sapore in St Kilda a couple of weeks ago to meet some good friends, and the food and service was excellent. We were able to bring some nice bottles with us as well, which makes it a lot more cost effective, plus you can choose your food based on the wine you bring with you.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Excellent cheap eat. With shopfront rents in Northcote and Thornbury starting to go through the roof, some very good and very affordable restaurants are now bobbing up in Preston."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Maha is good but very pricey. IMO you can get better more homestyle Lebanese food at Ablas in Carlton, which has been doing its simple, delicious, unpretentious thing for nearly 40 years."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Had an unbelievably good hamburger at Greasy Joe's a few years back.

No this one isn't a Korean BBQ setup, but agree the BBQs are great.
Some great dishes on the menu. We had the spicy Chicken, Barramundi, some Korean dumplings amongst other things. Also read the bbq steak on sweet potato noodles is worth trying.FFC: Established 1883

Tried a near new place in Kyneton after visiting my surgeon at the big smoke today, based on good reviews and its name. They've clearly seen the writing on the wall as its name is 'La Bonta' which I believe translates to 'The Bonts'.
Clearly trying to cash in. I hope MB is getting a cut of the action. Very good feed though.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Pretty stock-standard. Not bad but gets by on reputation moreso these days. My favourite steak house in Melbourne is the Railway Club Hotel in Port Melbourne - IMO it is a good deal better than most of the higher profile steak houses and the prices are very reasonable for the very high quality of the food."Look at me mate. Re: Best Eats in Melbourne
Yup, RCH churns out excellent quality food and you can get some decent wines without it being over the top price wise.
Off to Hellenic Republic in Brunswick tonight. My girlfriend has wanted to go there for a while, I've been a couple of times and have loved it so hopefully it's kept the standard.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Best Eats in Melbourne
Hellenic Republic was pretty good, again as expected.
Last night I visited the Yorkshire Hotel in Abbottsford having wanted to head there for a steak for some time. I had the 250gm eye fillet and thought it was really tender and tasty. I chose to have it with the 12 hour braised beef shin pithivier - suffice to say I've had enough red meat for the weekend! My partner had a really nice spaghetti with mussels and chorizo which was both huge and really nice. With that and some satay skewers and prawn spring rolls to share beforehand we certainly didn't leave hungry. Some might even say we overdid it a little.
The night before I attended a birthday at Howler in Brunswick. The cooling system was outstanding so it was really cool inside, and the Asian share menu was great as well. Would recommend for an afternoon/evening session for sure.
BTW - Has anyone been to Rare Steakhouse on Little Collins?TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment
