It's a shame rain and slow scoring too a bit of the shine from the game so far but I really want to see Warner get another bat. He's been a champion and I still don't believe we have anyone clearly better to open the batting.

Yeah I'd like him to finish with a decent score.

You rarely have someone better when a great retires on their own terms, but you wont know until you try and Bancroft I believe deserves a crack. He may make it or he may not. Personaly, of all the opening partners we tried since Bucky Rogers, Khawaja aside, Pukowski is the only one (in the single test he played) that looked test quality.

The series has had quite a few examples of this. 2 for 187 becomes 4 for 187 and batsman can't or won't tighten things up at the fall of a wicket.
It's good to see Marsh and Carey steady the ship.

The same Pakistani wickets contributed 213.
That is a huge difference in the Match.
Credit particularly to Jamal with 6 wickets after his 82 with the bat. Brilliant series for a player who had no test experience previously.

Pakistan lost 2 quick wickets, one from a brilliant delivery from Starc that would have got a lot of batsman out and a wide delivery from Hazlewood claimed the other. Could get interesting.

Gotta hand it to Pakistan as being the biggest cricketing enigma ever known. Without their best bowler they've kept us to a dreadfully modest score, after showing enormous grit in their first innings, and now have put it on a silver platter for us.

Really liking these pitches. If test cricket was serious it would deliver these types of wickets all the time and shorten the game to four days played Thursday to Sunday.
                  TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Sydney has produced a pretty good track with something in it for the spin and pace bowlers and if the batsman apply themselves they can knock up a score.

3 wickets in the over for Hazelwood, great bowling.

What a career by Warner and it was fitting that he played a good role in his final test.
Pakistan have plenty of ability just need to find another quality player or two.

What are your thoughts on this comment from Steve Smith?

Steve Smith told ABC Grandstand he's "pretty keen" to replace David Warner as opener.

Until that comment it was a bit of a race in 4 for Renshaw, Bancroft and Harris as the front runners and support for Cam Green.
The theory was that on Harris scored at the rate that our selectors want from an opener. That wouldn't be a consideration if they end up moving Smith too the top of the order.

As a Victorian , would hope Harris gets another go. the times i have seen him get out shows a technical flaw with his batting , which may not standup in test cricket. He has also got himself out when set . In test cricket there are fewer bad balls and bad technique can be found out .

Bancroft is probably the best candidate based on form .

Re: Australia v Pakistan Tests Summer 23/24

                                This from SEN

Marnus Labuschagne has chimed in on the opener’s dilemma following Australia’s 3-0 series defeat of Pakistan, proclaiming former skipper Steve Smith as the frontrunner.

Speaking with SEN Cricket after Australia’s SCG triumph, Labuschagne made note of Smith’s incredible batting record in multiple positions, before disclosing his keen interest in taking on the challenge.

“He averages 58 at five, 61 at four and 67 at three, so it seems like the higher he goes the more he averages,” Labuschagne said.

“I’ve got no doubt if that’s the way we went, he would do very well.

“He really wants it, he wants that motivation… waiting to bat is not his forte, he wants to get out there straight away.”

When asked whether he would consider the role himself, Labuschagne said while the team needs are top priority, he’s happy with his spot at three.

“I’m happy to do what the team needs, but I do love batting at three, I love the variety of the role,” he said.

“At the moment it could be anyone… I’ve seen the media throwing around Travis Head, throwing around me, obviously the three openers outside of the squad, Cameron Bancroft, Matt Renshaw and Marcus Harris.

“Smudge (Steve Smith) seems like the lead frontrunner, the one that really wants it.”

It’s hard to imagine Smith not taking the spot given his genuine interest, though 11 days remain before the final squad hits the Adelaide Oval against the West Indies.
