He'd definitely be in the squad but he wouldn't be starting. Bresc and Grella were consistently playing Serie A for years whereas Mooy has only just begun his EPL career. Then you have established EPL stars like Kewell and Emerton in midfield not to mention Viduka and Cahill up front with support from Aloisi, who was playing La Liga at the time. And Lucas Neill marshalling the troops down back in front of Schwartzer. Our 2006 squad was a true golden generation.

And Diego had to share the stage with Platini, Rossi, Klinsmann, Roger Milla even goalkeepers like Schumacher and Zoff.

It's just not the same quality o reckon.

Does that mean we will be in a group with other teams in our pot?

No we will be in a group with 1 team from pot 1, 1 from pot 2 and 1 from pot 3.

Also we can't be in a group with another Asian team so we won't get Iran from pot 3 (Teams from the same confederation can't be in the same pool other than Europe that can have a maximum of 2 teams in a pool).

Russia, Portugal or Poland from pot 1 all not too bad.

Need to avoid Spain and Croatia from pot 2 but all of Switzerland, England and Uruguay would be very tough opposition as well.

Denmark the best of pot 3 but happy to draw anyone.

Dream result would be Russia, Peru and Iran. Nightmare result would be Germany/Brazil, Spain and Denmark.

As per my post we can't draw Iran and also can't draw 3 euro teams.

But we can draw Poland right? What a shame that my ex's dad died. My son would love watching a Poland v Australia World Cup match sitting between his dad and his jadek.

This whole saga is a strange one. Why not just come out and say it?

Unfortunately, this does point to some mental health issues or, at very least, the bloke is just exhausted. Either of these would be a real shame.

Any thoughts on who we will appoint as Ange's successor? Local or international?

Gian Piero Ventura (the former Italian manger) will be on the hunt for a new job!

                            Re: Socceroos Thread

I think it's technically illegal for anyone other than Kevin Muscat to be appointed to fill a position vacated bu Ange Postocoglou so we don't have to worry ourselves.

I'm glad he went and the games are over. It's the Socceroos, not the Angeroos. I heard him say the other day " it's my job to let the players play and I take on all the problems and hassles on behalf of them." That's a nice sentiment and all but it's not really his role as national coach. I like Ange and all and he's done a great job getting us to Russia after it looked like we might march right off the edge toward the end the short story is we should have qualified long before. The team dropped the ball unaccountably at vital times and that is down to the players and coach.

I would have been happy with Ange taking us to Russia but there are plenty of reasons why it might be just as well he isn't. I hope we get the appointment right because a few of the big nations have a lot of if and buts about 2018 hovering over them and this could be a big chance for us to claim a big scalp or even advance depending on our group.

Please no. Scarily if we go down the Australian route after Arnold it is Muscat and Aloisi, two managers I despise (I also despise Arnold but he is atleast a very good manager).
I should leave it alone but you're not right
