Am I crazy, or is that just not how trades work, at all? I had a quick click through the last few years of trades and other than big, multi-club trades where a couple of players move, but never to each others' clubs, I've not seen a trade where two players move. It's always picks from one club for one player and maybe a pick from the other. As far as I can understand it, there are no club-requested trades in the AFL, they're all player-requested.

What is going on here? Am I missing something? Why do people keep suggesting this sort of trade might happen?
It's rare these days boots. Usually player for picks otherwise you're probably forcing a player to go somewhere they don't want to.

        not at all.
Ben Miller, Noah Balta, Josh Gibcus, Luke Trainor and Campbell Gray al head of him.
        no better than Buss imo

for mine it’s Wilkie or butts or no one.
we need someone to be better than JOD and Lobb. Unfortunately, other than Wilkie, maybe Butts, the cupboard is bare.
let’s just get Butters. Time is now. Geel will get him next year otherwise.
I will never see #16 the same!!

Incredible interview with Michael Regan on the Danny/Boyd podcast today. A good hour spent on our recruiting philosophy, trade strategy and some other details.

Nothing extremely insightful but hard to remember someone in that role at our club doing a long form interview.

Gold Coast today meeting with Marra and Petracca

From Tom Morris: "Christian Petracca has just landed on the Gold Coast. He will meet with the Suns as early as tomorrow as he weighs up his club of choice."

What about Ruben Ginbey from West Coast Eagles. He’s raw, but surrounded by Lobb, JOD, Dale etc I think he would add value. He’s young, energetic and can read the play very well. He just needs some support down back. I know he’s contracted, but what does that mean nowadays.

If GC are interested in JUH would a swap for Budarick be good enough or would we want more, or they would want more?

They would want more and especially some assistance with Marra's hefty contract for next season.

I think Ginbey is a WA boy aswell isnt he. he will be one of the eagles more highly paid players come his next contract. Had a good year.

I can't see Ginbey going anywhere, but he's definitely the type of player we would be enquiring about.

Good KPDs are hard to find, and will be very hard to lure away.

With Wilkie now off the table (and also Butts by the sounds), I don't think there are any other potentially available KPDs who will make us measurably better in 2026. I'm a big fan of all of Ballard, Turner and Comben, but they look completely entrenched in their current homes. Jai Serong definitely has the potential to, and I love that he has worked under a system that prioritises team defence - not sure he fully moves the needle in 2026 but he can really blossom at AFEL level and I would pursue.

Ginbey has some good traits but he is basically 22yo Frost when it comes to brain fades and will cost a bomb in any event, so we make as well get Frost on the extreme cheap instead (while pursuing Serong as well).

GOLD Coast's Connor Budarick is set to make a call between staying at the Suns or joining North Melbourne or the Western Bulldogs.

AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich says the Queenslander has toured both Victorian clubs and is set to announce his intentions in the coming days.

Gabelich says both the Roos and Bulldogs have offered Budarick a three-year deal.

Budarick wants to play as a small defender but spent most of this season in the forward line at the Suns. - Martin Smith

Well Robertson to WC lol, damn I was actually keen on him to be honest. But realistically he’d have been stupid to turn down a starting role at West coast so makes sense
