As you know, I'm seat 1A on the get Wilkie bandwagon, and failing that pursuit I'd be very happy to secure either of Butts or Young . All these 3 can add to our defensive structure by slotting in to that crucial anchor point role to free up Lobb, JOD, etc.
McGovern cannot play this role - he's a very nice player but he's too similar to what we already have. Blight has just been delisted by a bottom 4 team - we don't really have time to waste on umproven types. May is beyond cooked (thankfully we aren't pursuing).
Frost played the whole season last year and understandably took a back seat to Barrass this year. He's now surplus to requirements at Hawthorn (they have Jai Serong as well, highly unlikely the Hawks will let him go). If we failed to get any of Wilkie, Butts or Young, I'm happy to put my name to Frost on the 4th line of betting - call me crazy or Lloyd Braun.
What we can't do is not bolster the back half, and rely only on incremental improvement from within. We may as well sack Bevo now and pay him out because we won't be improving in 2026 with the same personnel in the back 6.
