The Western Bulldogs, Butters’ boyhood club, have held the strongest and longest interest in winning his signature.

They’d be prepared to offer upwards of $1.7 million a season over at least eight years if Butters was keen.

Butters has had contact with Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli, who has re-signed at the Kennel for four years.

“He’s (Butters) got a big decision on his mind, and I hope we’re in the situation and the football club looks potentially like a place he could see himself,” Bontempelli told 7NEWS in July.

“If we happen to end up in the same team, I’d be pretty happy about that too.”
Scenario: Butters says to Port, I want to leave and If you don't let me I will next year and you miss out on two first draft picks.

Any mail on Butters hanging for ages with the Geelong table at the Brownlow?

Keep in mind the points system will be different in 2026. A second round pick and 3rds won't get you a top 10 pick anymore. IIRC you're limited to 2 picks so they would want legitimate 1st round picks.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

I reckon his dream is to play with both Libba and Bont, Libba no guarantee after this year. He wants to be at home. I think we'll do whatever we can to make it happen, helping Port get whoever they want via a spiders web of deals and upgrading our picks.

We can do this and still get a good KPD.

They can still match next year and force a trade as he's only a restricted FA.

                    They can, but they won’t.

He is uncontracted, so he can just walk for nothing and head to the draft- in that regard it’s exactly the same way we were held over the barrel with Smith.

If they want more than a compo pick, they need to get it this year.

What do we think Budarick is going to cost? I reckon he'll be a good get for us if he comes cheap

There are a few scenarios here.
Our 2nd round pick or something to do with Marra heading up there seem to be around the mark.
GC won't make it easy but they will want to make a deal. They have a couple of academy picks to bring in plus Petracca.

What do you think will be a fair outcome?

Unlike Smith, Butters doesn't seem like a dickhead. So he'd probably go close to, if not outright pick 1.

I'm a draft dummy so had to research that.
I'd think that is only a slight concern for them at the moment.

I agree they'll get more this year than next. Like us with Dunkley. The thing with Port is if they know he's out one way or another they're better off getting it done now. They'll get more value without the threat of PSD and they can restart their rebuild/refresh now rather than delay it a year.

I was hoping for something like our second for Budarick and their third - helps them with pick matching points but Budarick on his own probably isn't an expensive trade (in my mind anyway, despite me thinking he'll fulfill a good role for us)
