Win the flag next year and this will be moot. Chad is a good player. Not as good as some make him out to be. He runs hot and cold and to be honest we would do just as well going into the draft and getting a kid who is keen and wants to play footy.

The fact he wants to go to Hawthorn to me is plain Silly. Yes they will probably make the. Finals again next year, but for a top four side to capitulate the way they did wouldn’t inspire me with confidence. He has a better chance of winning the flag with Port than with the Hawks.

This is a good point. If at the end of all of this we end up with Bailey Smith, I’ll be thrilled. Sadly I feel that won’t be the case

No you don’t come out and publicly declare interest in a player if you didn’t really want them. We just lost out plain and simple. A club like ours will just always need to build from within. We now just need to focus on retaining the talent we do have

It may well be that after that dinner, Bevo made a captains call. Who knows.

It’s not a level playing field though is it. Whether it’s North, Saints or us we’re playing with a hand tied behind our back.

Are we though? The two 3 things the Hawks have over us is in a Wingard deal are:
1) The perception that they are a finals contender most years
2) A long history of indigenous players at the club
3) Clarko getting into his ear a couple of years ago

Unless there is a strategic reason yet to be revealed as to why the club thought it prudent to talk publicly about our interest in Wingard, then I hipe in future they keep things quiet, and save us all the embarrassment of being jilted at the altar time and again.

Agreed - seen comments comparing this situation with Hurley but I can’t remember we released an article on our website expressing interest the way we did this time round.

Disappointed to say the least. Still, pick 7 will probably be a good player (Ian Hill anyone?)
