    How is Barrass’s back?
I don’t see Battle leaving the saints to come to us.

Agree, but are they also slightly different players? Do we want more of a KPD for the big beasts?

        Battle:
        25yo, 193cm, 93kg
        17.7 disposals, 8 marks (0.8 contested), 6.2 intercepts, 313 metres gained
Generally plays as intercepting third tall with Wilkie and Cordy/Howard.

        Barrass:
        28yo, 198cm, 96kg
        12.9 disposals, 6.9 marks (1.3 contested), 7.1 intercepts, 204 metres gained
Plays as KPD with McGovern, taking some of the best forwards.

(stats from Footywire, 2024 averages, not sure when the listed weights are from?)

          Re: Trade Rumours 2024

Here's a comparison between Brian Lake in 2012 the year we traded him, and Barrass this season.

Lake turned 30 in 2012, Barrass is due to turn 29 by the end of the season give or take. We'll have to spend more capital to secure Barrass who is contracted and still wanted by his club, while we couldn't get rid of Lake fast enough. However, in retrospect, I think the Hawks if knowing what was to come would have thrown a lot more at Lake.

Barrass is no Lake, but four years of him would be awesome and I'd pay a lot to see it happen.
          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Not knocking either player but Barrass is a better footballer but would probably cost a bit to get a deal done given he is contracted.
West Coast won't let him go cheaply.

Battle is probably gettable and is durable. Can be moved forward as well.

Interesting that Barrass still manage to win more intercepts, despite few disposals and marks - kind of implies he's the Liam Jones type who will lock down but get across and help his other defenders, or play deep and mop up.

Not sold on Battle - I think he's what we want JOD to be. That athletic second/third tall back who can intercept but we like to get the footy in his hands on transition.

                .
Maybe we are looking at Barrass for Liam's replacement.

We can't be seriously comparing Battle and Barrass.

Barrass is a gun key defender. Battle is some bloke who plays for St Kilda.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Surely the line is Battle is a battler who plays for St.Kilda.

Might as well get Zaine Cordy back if we are after Battle.

I’ll be forever grateful to Zaine, a Bullgod. But that Zaine Train has well & truly left West Footscray station, never to return, except for premiership reunions.

Yeh I wasn't sharing those stats to say that Battle was better - it was more to address whether he is actually the player we need!

There's no doubt that Barrass is better, particularly at actual defending.
Battle is fine for a 25 yo free agent as long as our expectations are that he replaces Khamis, not Jones.

We also have Coffield for 6 or 7 games per season

Battle can kick though and play as an interceptor.
Cordy, with all due respect, is an undersized stopper.

Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?
