    Yep, confirmed.

How many current Dons players are affected by this? How will they put a team together when they all get rubbed out?

I hope Paul Little, James Hird and Tania Hird all pull on the jumper

Makes the draft very interesting, they might need 30 draft selections. If they don't have more than 22 players outside action they can't field a side, of if they have 22, any injured players would need to be named although unable to play. By my count they'll have 16 players plus 6 draft picks at this point. 22 inclusive of rookies, whether rookies could be elevated without LTI would be tested.

They won't deal before the PSD, so it's 'all in' if the AFL suspends them.

I'm sure Tania is frantically re-writing her life's history to now also include 200 AFL games... Along with being the top of her law class at Melbourne Uni and being a high flying city lawyer before getting married, and the pronunciation of her name of course. She's actually less credible than James if possible.

Irrespective of what she does, she'll have comprehensive notes to back it up because she is a lawyer.

Where's the unmade bed Hird's Herald Sun PR man Robinson going to play?

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

The stupid thing about all of this is James Hird's futile challenge/appeal in the high court will delay the smashing all involved need to get from the media, as it for some reason will still be portrayed as important. Irrespective of how immaterial it is to the overall caper.

I don't have any sympathy for the players at all. One of only a few rules they needed to stick by was "make sure you know exactly what is being injected into you" and "get a receipt". None of them did, and they're all dickheads for it.

The sooner this is over and done with the better.

I don't understand the Hird court action. Even if he manages somehow to convince the court the inquiry was mismanaged, can't ASADA just re-boot the inquiry and gather the same or similar evidence? If they have enough evidence to issue show cause notices then it seems unlikely that taking out the player interviews of the period will damage ASADA's case much.

All it's going to do is drag out the case and buy Hird some time. But it's inevitable. Am I wrong?

Is this his last avenue of appeal? Could he appeal to an international court? What's the criteria for that?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

Hird's dragging this out in court remind me of Esso after the Exxon Valdez disaster. It was cheaper for Esso to stall things in the courts than pay reparation for the dreadful environmental damage they caused.

Hird also brings to mind a spoilt child sticking his fingers in his ears saying "I can't hear anything, really I can't" as well as one of those looney tune cartoons where one character points to the bushes and says "ooh, did you see that rabbit" as a short term, useless, diversionary tactic.

I'm guessing a minimum 6 month ban, possibly 12 month is likely i.e. 5 weeks of season proper or the whole season. To be fairer to the other clubs (if case proven which seems inevitable) then it ought to be the whole season so teams who play them if they were suspended for only part of the season are not given an advantage. Wonder if there will be bets on this sometime soon - sad state of affairs all round.

I think you're underestimating what Hird has at stake here, and what an average person if given the resources would do if he/she was in Hird's postion.

The guy is fighting for his future livelihood, and is pulling out all stops to protect it. It's fine for us to suggest he should just roll over and take what is coming to him, because we don't have skin in the game. I'll never agree with his actions, but I can understand why he's committed them, and there's absolutely no way society would have accepted him if he had have put his hands up and surrendered.

                          It doesn't work that way.

Even if his name is cleared and he manages to see his contract out at Essendon he will still be tarnished goods, it is hard to imagine Hird will have an association with Essendon or for that matter any AFL club or the media in two or three years time.

The football industry, particularly its media, is probably the most forgiving industry out there. My bet is he's more likely to make a quid in it than he is in other industries.

I think the potential civil litigation in years to come is just as much in Hird's mind (and EFC's) as is his reputation, which is largely shredded beyond repair.

Agree that the industry is forgiving and whatever happens he will likely still find employment in a few years time. It's a bit like a big boy's club IMO.

I cannot understand why players who have left EFC have not taken opportunity to co-operate early with ASADA. Perhaps they will be let off lightly or even found not guilty and my interpretation of information released is wrong.
