Trade : Get him to the Club

With all the talk around players moving, upset players wanting a new challenge, and ZAK! Might be worth starting a little thread around who's available and some stats and info about options.

Would we consider Wilkie from the Saints? 29, plays big and is an all Australian from 2023. Whilst we're on the path developing JOD,Buss,Coff,Cleary, would someone with his experience give us a Jones replacement for next year? What happens to Jones next year?

I did a quick stat look up and whilst JOD is younger, his sample in def stats is comparable however Wilkie is more established in possession however that's more the way the Saints play.

I feel we're one experienced defender away from being geniune, Barrass would have been the missed link last trade period or do we trust what we've got presently.

Lights out for the Aints if they lose NAS and Wilkie.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Wilkie plays in every team in the competition.
He's a serious upgrade on all KP and 3rd tall types we have at the club except for Lobb.

It's already confirmed that he's not available so sadly it's a moot discussion.

Id go for both of Wilkie & Silvagni. Do a Hawks of last year who made their defence the best in the league in one off season. Silvagni could also be our best utility too, 3rd tall behind Naughty & Darcy. Ruck, CHB. We just need to go all out to give ourselves the best chance at winning a flag as possible whilst we have Bont & Darcy in their prime.

        round 1 next year:

        Cleary Wilkie Silvagni
        Dale Lobb Bramble

        Davo Libba Williams
        English Bont Richards

        Kennedy Naughty Dolan
        West Darcy Cody

Freijah, Sanders, Treloar, Jacques, Hynes etc

Damn that’s a flag winning side if ive ever seen one

I think they find a way to up his contract out of "goodwill" and keep him, but losing Nas, Marshall and Windhager would be devastating for them.

Sure they get some overpaid mercenaries in for them but at what cost to the playing culture?

He is not a full back, he is a very good third tall, as is Silvagni

In what world is Wilkie not a full back? Hes absolutely not a third tall - takes the best forward every week and plays deepest defensive role.

So at 191cm, he can take on Darcy 208cm, King brothers at 202cm, Cameron at 196cm, Thilthorpe at 201cm etc.

He is bloody good defender that is for sure, but I don't rate him as a KEY Defender. Anyway, that is my opinion

Height doesn't mean much. I remember distinctly when 188cm James Sicily gave 207cm Rory Lobb an absolute bath when Rory was playing forward. More important is craft and strength and Wilkie has both in spades.

Still... he's not going anywhere, sadly, so we can only dream.

Nobody is more focused on WOOF about players height than Bornadog. There is some talk that his real name is Randy Newman but I digress.
Perhaps there is some PTSD back in the 80's or 90's when undersized Bulldogs defenders got ripped some new ones by taller opponents so respect to him.

Like a mighty Oak tree, he ain't bending.

Is this necessary to post - be more mature. I don't care if you think it is funny, (it's not ) but stop playing the man, and put up a football argument.

He’s played on Cameron a number of times and routinely takes the 195cm guys. No I probably wouldn’t play him on your Darcy’s & TTs, we have Lobb for that anyway, but I don’t think that changes whether someone is a key defender or not just because they’re better suited to some match ups over another.

Wilkie pretty much always plays as deepest defender and pretty much always takes the best forward (except for some match ups like he’ll usually take Naughty over Darcy against us). He’s definitely not a 3rd tall despite his height and is the sort of anchor guy you run a defence around. Especially one like ours who already has a couple of giants in Lobb & JOD.

But yeah I doubt he’s on the table, Silvagni sounds more realistic but I’d prefer Wilkie personally

If you cant sell the Premership dream at the kennel to a key defender right now Sam Power should get another job. Its time to get ruthless get it done Sam.
