My concern with Higgins is he is already a full time footballer and I wonder how much improvement he has left.
More of an In Bruges guy?

It's a very valid point. He's a smart player but there could very well could be some limitations of how much improvement there is in him.

Noticed Knightmare has him 17th in his latest phantom draft mostly due to his inconsistency.

Seems to be a fair few key defenders in this draft that should be available at our pick. Question is do we want to wait for them to develop?

Higgins would be excellent but how many more midgets do we need?

I don't take much notice of the "experts". I understand the inconsistency argument however Stephenson is a legitimate match winner.

Of the key defenders, if Clavarino is available at our 2nd I think we should consider strongly.

Would be interested on for thoughts on Petrucelle - we have a need for speed. Doesn't appear he'll be available for our second selection, and our first will be too early, but would love that speed in our side.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

He's very quick off the mark and recorded blistering sprints early in the season. Interestingly is that Stephenson also recorded quick sprints but probably has Petrucelle covered for distances over 50mtrs.

I think there is a chance that he is available for our 2nd pick but you might be right.

If players can play football at the highest level I'm not too fussed about their height. Yes you can overdo it but I wouldn't put a line through anyone who can play at the moment.

We also tend to draft in clusters of similar sized and similar positions so it wouldn't surprise me if we landed some smaller players this year especially after the land of the giants effort last year.
Players Lachlan Fogarty and Gryan Miers shouldn't be ignored because of their height.

That's true - classy mid-small players in 2015, talls in 2016. Would it be speed in 2017 do you think?
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

                        Re: 2017 Draft Watch

I think it should be planned on retirements two years before they retire, Morris will be gone after next year I imagine, so a player along his lines should be looked at unless we already have someone in the VFL for that role.
I think drafting should be looked at two years ahead unless your in "the window" and need a ready made player.
Not sure how the club sees our list but I wouldn't be trading unless it was Lever, would prefer it's players rather than a draft pick but to get him.
Keep our picks and get players to replace guys two years down the track.

After this year it might seem odd but I think we were rebuilding to a certain extent, our backline was young kids.
Was Luke preparing for two years down the track ?
Seems we concentrated on young, Williams ,Dale and others getting games than us winning at times.

We drafted those classy smaller types in 2014 (McLean, Webb,Hamilton, Dale, Daniel and topped off with a tall in Cordy) we then drafted strong bodied players in 2015 (Dunkley, Collins, Adams and then Williams), last year it was taller skinny types (English, Lipinski, Young, Greene and then added Mullenger-McHugh and Tweedie) so we might be back to some smaller types.

I get the feeling we wanted Long and Hannan last year but our picks got taken before they thought they might so it could be some smaller forward/midfielder types again especially if the likes of Hamilton and Honeychurch are let go.

Early days with the speculation of course.

I agree with his high assessment of Clavarino

For me as well, I mention him in the Carnival thread and was very impressed with his game against SA.
