Exciting Dogs' NGA prospect enhances top-five hopes in 2020

The next Buddy? The flying teen who could solve the Dogs' forward dilemma.

JAMARRA Ugle-Hagan's stocks continue to rise as a possible top-five selection at next year's draft after a dominant performance in the NAB League.

Playing for the Oakleigh Chargers in their preliminary final win over the Sandringham Dragons, the indigenous key forward kicked 4.2 from 12 disposals in a starring effort on Saturday.

Ugle-Hagan, who transferred from the Greater Western Victoria Rebels to the Chargers this season, is tied to the Western Bulldogs through the Next Generation Academy.

He looks set to attract a very early bid at next year's draft, with the agile 195cm prospect piecing together a brilliant few weeks at under-18 level.

The left-footer has booted 11 goals in his past three games for the Chargers, and he took nine marks against the Dragons, with many tough grabs on the lead. He has kicked 24 goals from eight games in the NAB League this year.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan firming to be a top pick at next year’s draft after a four-goal haul for Oakleigh in today’s NAB League prelim win over Sandringham. Had a great end to the year.

Dogs NGA prospect is a brilliant mark on the lead and very athletic for a tall. Exciting talent. (Cal Twomey tweet)

He wasn't the only bottom-ager to perform well for the Chargers, with midfielder Will Phillips gathering 27 disposals (15 contested) and a game-high eight clearances. He is another likely first-round pick in 2020.

For this year's draft, Trent Bianco boosted his hopes with a classy performance. The skillful midfielder/half-back had 27 disposals and rarely wasted them, with his elite ball use on both feet a highlight. Bianco's draft range is considered likely to be in the second round.

The draft range of Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson has less guesswork.

The likely top two picks at November's draft again stood up for Oakleigh, with Rowell having 32 disposals (plus seven clearances, five of which were out of the centre) and Anderson booting three goals from 23 disposals.

Oakleigh will meet the Eastern Ranges in this week's NAB League Grand Final after the Ranges beat Gippsland Power in the preliminary final.

The Ranges are not stocked with as many draft prospects as the Chargers, with Lachie Stapleton (22 disposals) against prominent and one of their best chances.

Will Parker, the nephew of Port Adelaide recruiting manager Geoff, was strong for the Ranges with 23 touches and is eligible for next year's draft. He is also a talented cricketer so will be weighing up a call between the sports.

Gippsland pair Sam Flanders (27 disposals and eight clearances) and Caleb Serong (21 disposals, two goals) again performed well as their impressive draft seasons came to a close, while wingman Ryan Sparkes (26 disposals, 10 marks) was also busy.

The NAB League Grand Final will be played at Ikon Park in Melbourne on Saturday, with first bounce set for 1.05pm local time.

He hasn't even got a tank yet, or stopped growing. Could be anything.

Has all the makings of a key forward that will trouble many a backman.

Lets play him in the ruck...

The AFL better not pull him out from under our noses.
I don't care if they wanna make us pay market value, and/or make significant change to the NGA going forward.
Its proving nigh on impossible for us to be able to attract A grade talent via trade means; we need these avenues to augment our list development strategy.

You’d have to think that with the ability to trade future picks clubs are managing thier draft strategy “at least” 2 years out. By that logic, I can only assume any changes would be for the 2021 trade period at the earliest.

Having said that, it wouldn’t surprise me if the AFL screwed us.

Someone mentioned Collingwood & Hawthorn have top NGA prospects next year. I don't think Gil will take on Eddie & Jeff by moving on next year's crop if that's right.

It was me, said the same thing. The AFL’s very own media arm are reporting JUH as ‘Dogs NGA’ prospect. I think we’re going to be ok.

Didn't the AFL make changes late in the piece that meant GWS lost access to Todd Marshall?

Yes. In order to shut Eddie and other influential Victorian club presidents up. I think comrade makes the best point so far, the state run media (AFEL.com.au) is reporting us as having JUH next year in numerous articles, podcasts and social media. That's telling.

Draft Central Scouting Notes on Jamarra last weekend:

                        #25 Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Another dominant outing from the 2020 draft prospect who is tied to the Western Bulldogs’ NGA, the talented key forward was again the clear standout key forward with his speed off the lead and marking power too much for Sandringham to handle. Ugle-Hagan had a great start taking two great lead up marks an converting both set shots but his best goal came in the third quarter marking deep in the pocket and kicking a sensational goal right on the siren. His last goal came easy in the last quarter with a mark and quick kick in the goal square. Ugle-Hagan finished the game with 12 disposals, nine marks and kicked 4.2 with a few on the full as well.

One thing Marra needs to iron out is his tendency to get too close to the mark when kicking. Definitely causes him to spray a few when he gets up and under them.

As he is in our Academy what support does he get?
Does he make regular training session with the main group?
We should have him involved as a listed player so we can say our Academy are nurtured.
We can have a bigger spit if he goes elsewhere and maybe legal action or compensation for putting in the effort.

I will leave access questions to any others. He’s like a father/son. Next year a club above us in the draft order will bid on him. We will match it with the discount on points. So he’s ours November 2020. No fighting necessary.
