So if he's any good the Hawks will grab him if he nominates as a father son

It would have been nice if he went to Pegs or somewhere in the west or north with a half decent footy program.
It's due to his indigenous status

“Kobe is the son of Mark Williams, who played at Hawthorn and Essendon. Mark played enough games at Hawthorn for Kobe to be a father-son, he also is eligible at the Bulldogs’ NGA with his indigenous status. Kobe’s been really impressive over the summer, not only with his improvement with his athleticism, but also his leadership. He was probably our standout player in the intraclub recently as well. He’s been a forward as a junior predominantly, but we think he might be spendi some time in the midfield and even across half-back with us early in the season before he returns to Scotch College.”

If you are from the west and you were schooled in the west you may as well be moving interstate if your place of work is set to become Dingley.

Hopefully his good mates with Will Darcy and that is the catalyst for him becoming a bulldog!

Anyway I wonder if our NGA Academy assist our prospects with schooling scholarships. Would be good if the NGA leaders worked closely and helped build 1 or 2 footy programs in the west.

One of my biggest concerns about the bulldogs is footy at a grass roots level is average out west and seem to be declining further. The WRFL is run poorly (the good teams are moving to the edfl and there are teams with no juniors) and the quality is shit, there are no private schools in the west with a decent footy program that I’m aware of and the western jets are garbage. A lot of this is on the afl given the west of Melbourne is so multi cultural and one of the biggest growth corridors in Australia.

If grass roots footy improved in the west it would give the club a whole new dynamic to its recruiting strategy. Can’t ever see it happening though. Been the same story since Peter Jackson lobbied the afl prior to the giants inception.👍 1Comment

Cheers Axe. Anyway here's hoping we have 3 darcy's and two west's in the side by 2028.
You can find the map below of the NGA zones for clubs. We basically get the western suburbs and western Victoria other than the Geelong region and North's zone around Werribee.

Nah 2008 is next year, the 2007 boys are draftable (El Soukis is incorrect, he’s 2008 too.

For this year the draft relevant ones are:

Will Darcy - been quiet lately, and gladly so, he’s not standing out but I think we’d take him on potential for sure. Shown enough small traits to say he could have a future and we all know the potential and the rate of developments in the Darcy’s. Hopefully a late pick.

Kobe Williams - top 40, classy half back he would suit us well, it’s still up in the air whether he chooses hawks F/S or our academy. I hope he chooses us.

Harley Hicks - was highly rated coming into the year but spent most of it injured and hasn’t fired a shot since returning so is slipping down the boards. Explosive small forward, I was really big on him coming into this year when I found out he was in our NGA but just hasn’t kicked on. I’d be keen as an undrafted Cat B still though or a late pick, hopefully he has a better finish to the year.

El Souki, Hok Marial & West are the important ones next year at this stage. El Souki is trending to a genuine top 15 pick (think Kako’s level from last years draft)👍 5Comment

Thanks for pointing out the El Souki date - i've fixed that up.

The whisper is we're pretty excited that one of this years crop is staying low on boards isn't it? Could possibly be about Hicks if he's been injury interrupted etc. Will be interesting to see if we pick him up despite his quiet year.👍 1Comment

Looks like his dad. Form line is hard to really tell, but Kobe Williams from the stat's looks a stand out. Any chance he comes to us?Comment

What is Mark Williams' relationship with the Hawks like? That would be the decider you'd think, given their issues with other indigenous players.

I saw Luke Hodges son has qualified for the Brisbane academy, and will have to choose. How can sons of AFL players be eligible for academies...like they wouldn't have got opportunities to play footy without them?Comment

He’s definitely draftable, it’s still up in the air which way he goes. I’m somewhat confident, a lot of these kids choose academies because it’s what they know. I mean he’s probably spent 2 days at the Hawks but years in the dogs academy, using their facilities etc it’s gone that way a lot of times now ie Blakey for Swans and looks like possibly Cooper Hodge for Brissy. But that’s a little different because it’s staying in the same state vs moving so it’s obvious.

but agree with the sentiment above, it’s crazy that a F/S can eligible for an academy. Absolutely joke. Luke Hodges son ffs, yeah really would have been lost to footy that one.

I would be seething as a hawks fan, hopefully it happening to a big club could be a bit of a fire starter to change things, there’s just no reason a F/S should be eligible for anyone’s academy!👍 1Comment
