Twomey’s July Power Rankings
3. Sam Darcy
Forward/defender
204cm/75kg

Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro
After booting six goals in Vic Metro's trial game, Darcy had a quieter day in their clash with a full-strength Vic Country the following week with two goals from seven disposals. But his goals were examples of his talent again, including a classy snap on his none-preferred left foot. The Western Bulldogs father-son is an immense talent: he can play as a forward, defender and ruckman, he's athletic and agile, he converts his shots for goal and has taken all comers this season. Think of Darcy as a Max King type of forward.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Harris Andrews is the better comparison, imo.Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

We have to take him (of course we do) but top 10 is a stretch and top 3 is off the planet. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

I really hope there is a national carnival or something of the like so we get to see how he competes against the best kids in the country, would certainly tell us a bit more. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Adrian Caruso from GWS was interviewed on Road to the Draft and I'm paraphrasing but he basically said that Darcy would be ahead of Daicos on their needs list ("talls are hard to find") so would be worth a bid before him.Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Re: Future Priority Access Thread (Inc. Father/Son, Academy Players)
I suspect that whoever finishes bottom this year will employ a similar tactic to Adelaide last year and will bid on Darcy ahead of Daicos, as they will want to reduce our draft hand more than Collingwood's given our list profile. Forcing us to burn points on Darcy may make it harder for us to address our need areas at the draft.Comment

But the difference after discount between Pick 1 & Pick 2 is only 386 Points (a couple of 4th Rounders). If we are going to take a deficit, I don’t think it makes too much difference, our picks will be late anyway. Raak (passed Pick 41) &/or MacPherson (passed Pick 52) could be free hits potentially with any late picks after those mentioned to be matched with our next pick no matter how late, and we will upgrade Gardner and I assume Khamis & Sweet. The only issue I see would be if those 386 DP’s blew out the deficit, but Power has shown he can employ good DP’s trades. If North or whoever wants to give us the hype of landing the Number 1 Pick, I’ll take that hype. I’m sure Sam Darcy would love to take NABs cash too. The marketing and membership managers would love selling two Pick 1 players back to back. One a third generation Darcy.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Future Priority Access Thread (Inc. Father/Son, Academy Players)
With at least another week of NAB League & VFL not being played, Raak & MacPherson get more games taken away from them hurting their draft chances. On the flip side, with the time Raak spent over summer to now, and MacPherson around Footscray, we’ve must have a sense of whether we would select/match bids as known quantities. If so, their value to us is higher while their overall value drops the chance of where bids come (if at all). Obviously if their value takes a hit beyond free hit status at the ND, they’re then both rookie options too. Assuming we want them late/rookies. Not great for these kids, but if we are keen, an opportunity to grab a known quantity for bugger all and they still get the AFEL chance they desperately want.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Future Priority Access Thread (Inc. Father/Son, Academy Players)
I just listened to Twomey’s Top 40.
Darcy at 3
Raak not Top 40 (seems to have slid with no footy) - If that happen with a bid later, it’s matched with the ‘next pick’ whatever that is. If no bid, Cat B Rookie.
I hope Twomey is right that he gets through the Top 40. Because if we want him, it’s cheap or very cheap for us.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
