His rucking duties were restricted to the forward line only. It's only a small sample size and it was his first game after a lengthy lay off with an ankle injury. So that may have contributed. It might be something he can work on to add another spring to his bow.

      Re: 2023 Draft Watch

      Here is a snippet of Colby McKercher in action as a 16yo playing senior football in the Tasmanian State League. He's a possible top 10 pick and likely to be the first player drafted from Tas at this stage. Why do these kids seem to have their best highlights against North Hobart!

      Colby McKercher is just 16 years old, but he did this in his senior debut for Launceston Football Club ! Find out why he’s called “Speedy” with these...

        Re: 2023 Draft Watch

        The AFL Academy game v Port is on today at 4pm. Some of the best young footballers who will feature at the top end of the draft will be on show. There will be a live stream of the game on the AFL website. Players and their numbers are in the link;

        I've had a go at putting the team in position;

        B: George Stevens, Daniel Curtin, Will Patton

        HB: Archie Roberts, Connor O'Sullivan, Harley Reid

        C: Colby McKercher, Ryley Sanders, Riley Hardman

        HF: Koltyn Tholstrup, Archer Reid, Zane Duursma

        F: Nick Watson, Jed Walter, Ashton Moir

        R: Mitch Edwards, Will Lorenz, Cooper Simpson

        INT: Nathan Philactides (HB), Nate Caddy (F), Lachlan Cabor (B), Jack Callinan (F), Caiden Cleary (C), Orlando Turner (F), Darcy Wilson (F/C), Will Green (R), Jack Delean (F), Jake Rogers (C/F), Kane McAuliffe (C), Ethan Read (R)

        Wasn't sure where to put Harley Reid so I put him at HB as I felt the defence was a bit light on, originally had him in C. Plenty of good forwards to choose from from. The 6 I've chosen are all top 10 draft chances.

            Ive been doing some reading up on this years draft pool given we have two first round picks and it seems to be a stacked draft for us. You would have to think a lot of the boys you named will get drafted this year. We need a midfielder who can play forward and more importantly a forward who can play in the midfield.

              Quite a few will be featured in this game led by likely no.1 pick Harley Reid. I'm looking forward to seeing Watson, Tholstrup, McKercher & Wilson in this regard. Moir & Duursma have themselves stated they want to play more midfield this year despite having glowing reputations as forwards.

              I'm also looking forward to the Nationals where we should see a few more. Country have a few this year. De Mattia & Malik Gordan could feature.

                Re: 2023 Draft Watch

                Decent summary of a game featuring a lot of the top prospects.
                A couple of all forwards and mids of note who may be in the frame for us this draft

                The 2023 AFL Academy squad pushed Port Adelaide's SANFL side all the way. We noted the performances of all 30 national representatives.

                Nick Watson just keeps putting his hand up for an early pick, despite his size.
                Kane McAuliffe a big bodied mid who applies pressure
                Darcy Wilson must be in our sights considering we were into Ollie Hollands last year
                Tholstrup I'd say goes in the first handful

                  Re: 2023 Draft Watch

                  While it's probably an incredibly difficult position to get to ideally we need to add 4 highly rated top 30 type youngsters in the door at the end of the season and then take our chances with some picks later in the draft.
                  We have a few needs across the ground.

                    Watson played behind the ball a fair bit this game & showed he is not just a small forward. Has to to be in the top 5. I have him at 2 at the moment.

                    Really like Wilson and hope we are into him. He & McKercher were terrific.

                      Do you know it there is a link to still watch this? I had trouble trying to connect to it for some reason and gave up after about 20 minutes.

                        There was a link on the AFL website but I'm not sure if it is still there.

                          Agree with this and mentioned the same thing in the 2023 rolling draft thread yesterday. I am not including Croft in my calculations.

                              Once again we can look at splitting a pick. Or do we consider trading out a senior player to get a pick inside the top 30?

                              I agree we need to get some you onto our list to give it some youthful exuberance.

                                There are a few options but at the moment I'd prefer to keep our 1st rounders. That might change though.
                                I'd be open to trading a player for a pick but that's more of a list management discussion as we need to assess how the whole list is performing.
