    Re: 2024 Draft Watch

According to Campbell Brown Brew is the best pressure player he has ever seen play or words to that extent, even more so than Hodge and Sam Mitchell, i do like what he could bring and be a real hard nut in the middle and instantly take over from Libba if his form was to fade off however a ruck is more of a need, Brew is a beast when it comes to tackling.

No way we roll over so meekly in the final if Brew is playing. Absolute heart and soul type who would be amazing for the group.
McComb is a very good player at that level too. I'm talking the next level and it's not harsh at all. He's 27 and hasn't been drafted. No other clubs have invited him down either.

I get the want for this to be a thing, but it's just not going to be imo.

P.S. I would love for him to make it.

His stats, game style (and votes) are much closer to Sam Mitchell than they are to Robbie McComb.

        It's a pretty unfair comparison.

Sam Mitchell.... The guy who "won" a Brownlow? He was a looooot younger at vfl level (19?). So as far as comparisons go.

I'm not that invested to be defensive of the comment so I'll go with you as you've clearly seen more of him

My sentiment is just I'd rather a kid, but you know I'd be happy to eat my words.

TBH we just took a bunch of kids at the draft - and given the age profile of our mid and defenders, I'm happy to add a couple of guys who can 'plug and play'.

I'm really unconvinced Libba gets through next year, he was brilliant early last year but slowed dramatically as the year wore on. Then there's Treloar - a guy with a soft-tissue injury history just had his career best year. Will he back it up? History is against him.

I'd love us to get back to a more 2021 style midfield rotation - much heavier and more players involved. And a defensive animal in there, be that Kennedy as a lockdown mid, Brew who tackles more than anyone on our list or Sanders replicating some of his u18 year efforts.

Boyd is training at St. Kilda so you can guarantee Brew signing.

I don’t have any angst at Brew. But I just don’t see our logic as I can’t see him playing in the seniors midfield. It’s a nice story, but I don’t think we are addressing any need by taking a VFL mid.

Who do you think will make the most impact out of our new draftees in 2025 for their first year? Obviously Joel Freijah was a surprise packet last year so will be interesting to see who it is this year. I’ve got my on Sam Davidson I think he is the most mature but his height may go against him since it is already the three tall timbers in there.

                    Josh Dolan.

Only slight, but if he can put together a good pre season he is exactly the type of player we are missing. Hard running, clean skills, can connect inside 50 as a high HF.
More of an In Bruges guy?

If our focus is on 'win now' then you could argue that Brew's skillset brings more to the team than guys like Gallagher (20 games) and Garcia (12 games). We also have to fill the hole of Macrae (19 games) and Daniel (16 games).

If he shows through the pre season that he is capable, then why shouldn't he get the last spot? I'd love us to have someone else training with us as well so there is competition, but I don't think age rules him out. At 27 he could still give us four good seasons of footy...that's more than the average draftee.

                        Re: 2024 Draft Watch

I love the idea of Brew coming in, for two reasons.
                        1. This guy will come in and leave nothing out there. He will run through walls, push until he pukes, because he knows this is it, this is his chance to realise a dream.
                        2. If this 27 yo comes in, who works a 9-5 job, who has been looked over year after year, and shows you up as a player on a list, that should burn. He has no right to beat you with all the advantages you have had. If he does... the coaches need to take notice.
You keep on using that word... I do not
think it means what you think it means.

It’s not really his age that bothers me. It’s the fact he dominates VFL like Garcia & Macrae did this year. Who got promoted into HHF roles that didn’t allow them to bring that midfield form up. I just have a feeling he will continue to dominate the VFL centre square and then not get games in there and the cycle will continue. Same plan, new face.

I’d rather address a genuine list need be it ruck, small defender or small forward.

If we gets a spot I’ll be supporting him no issue. As I say, I think there’s a risk we are just repeating history and expecting a different result.
