Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Didn't see it posted but here's our preview on RookieMe. Not much different from anything else posted.
Western Bulldogs are set to welcome four to five fresh faces to the Kennel at this year's AFL Draft, including three in the first two rounds.
2024 RECORD: 6th, 14-9, 125.1% | Eliminated: Elimination Final
2024 PICKS: 17, 25, 35, 48, 83, 90
FUTURE PICKS: WB R1, WB R2, WB R3, WB R4
ACADEMY/FATHER-SON NOMINEES: Nil.
FIRST PICK:
Pick 17
There is plenty of competition for talent in the range of the Bulldogs? first pick, which lands in the back-end of round one. Midfield depth and running power seems to be a priority given the exits of Jack Macrae and Bailey Smith, and best available selections should yield such attributes.
There was talk that silky skilled midfielder Murphy Reid could be a slider, but perhaps 190cm powerhouse Cooper Hynes is the most realistic target. While neither player boasts natural leg speed, they can impact in the forward half and use the ball creatively by hand and foot.
An array of sliders may also be in store. Midfielder-forwards Taj Hotton and Jesse Dattoli will be in high demand with clubs like GWS, Richmond, and Sydney lurking in the late-teens. Likewise, if Xavier Lindsay were to slip through he?d be difficult to overlook with his inside-outside threat and punchy left foot.
REMAINING CROP:
Picks 25, 35, 48, 83, 90
Depending on what?s available with pick 17, perhaps the Bulldogs can target a tall with its next selection in Luke Trainor. The grandson of Doug Wade is being slated as one of the crop?s great sliders and may even be available late into the 20s. His intercept marking and distributive skills are high level.
The Bulldogs? second and third picks will be bunched a little closer together after Academy bids fall. It means they?ll be able to make decisions with the next in mind and package players up. If power and explosive traits are desired, then they can look no further than Oliver Hannaford and Tom Gross.
A utility like Christian Moraes offers great running power, likely to start out as a wingman or high forward with scope to develop as a midfielder. A little further down the order with pick 35, taller mids like Hugh Boxshall and Jack Ough may also be on the radar after strong ends to their respective seasons.
Along similar lines to Moraes, Xavier Ivisic has potential to develop in a few roles on the back of his endurance base. 190cm West Australian forward Hamish Davis connects the lines just as well, while Ivisic?s Geelong Falcons captain Lachie Jaques could be an option for his burst off half-back.
KEY QUESTIONS:
? Will the Bulldogs cover their losses by targeting midfield depth?
? Can the Bulldogs add touches of flair and running power?
? Will the Bulldogs lean on their future picks to trade up the order?Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I was watching some more Moraes highlights and he reminds me of Toby McLean. His ball drop looked woeful though - are there stats on kicking efficiency?
Watching Hynes, I think his height reminds me of the way Bont moves in traffic but not as clean or skilful. His endurance numbers are concerning.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
From Fox Footy
PICK 20: WESTERN BULLDOGS – MURPHY REID
Position: Midfielder/medium forward
Size: 181cm
Clubs: Sandringham Dragons/South Melbourne Districts
AFL player comparison: Harry Sheezel
Foxfooty.com.au Draft Power Rankings: 7
Reid has split opinions of AFL club recruiters all year, but his class is undeniable. While he’s not the tallest or quickest midfielder in the draft class, Reid is one of the shrewdest and most composed in traffic, while he’s also added forward craft to his trick bag, highlighted by his three-goal, 31-disposal for Vic Metro against South Australia. Against the Allies in tough, wet conditions, Reid was the cleanest player on the field, finishing with 24 disposals, 12 contested possessions, six score involvements and five intercepts on his way to claiming Vic Metro’s MVP award.
In the mix/trade watch: This is probably the latest Reid will get picked, for there’s every chance he’s off the board by now. The Bulldogs are anticipated to target a forward-half player with one of their first few selections – and it’s unlikely to be a tall. Many believe Reid will start his AFL career as a half-forward. Other draft prospects in the mix would include Dandenong Stingrays star Cooper Hynes, as well as Jesse Dattoli or Ollie Hannaford, while they’d also closely look at Taj Hotton or Joe Berry if either of them slid. There have also been suggestions the Bulldogs could look at a key defender – which would bring Matt Whitlock and even Luke Trainor into the conversation – but that would more likely be with their second-round pick.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I've been worried about Dom ever since we were keen to trade up and grab Tsatas, I just never saw it with that kid. I still have my concerns over Sanders, pick 6 should be a game breaker I'm not sure a good inside mid is worth it at the end of the draft.
I'd love Hannaford...Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I heard Murphy Reid and Taj Hotton interviewed together and Cal Twoomey asked them both which clubs have recently spoken to them.
Both of them listed about four or five clubs and neither of them mentioned the Dogs.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I noticed that as well but on the Gettable show today Twomey just confirmed again there is an outside chance Murphy gets to us. Unreal to think it could happen.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Has a guy who’s fallen from a top 10 pick to ~20 ever actually been any good or worked out? Remember when Essendon got awarded 5 straight premierships for Laverde “slipping” to them? It’s kinda a red flag as much as anything.- I'm a visionary - Only here to confirm my biases -Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
That will be Sanders, possibly from as early as this year depending on how Libba's body holds up. I have no concerns about Sanders as a player for us. He'll be a gem in that role one he gets the full time opportunity.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
There are sliders and sliders.
Sliders because of injuries and attitude
Sliders because of some bad traits as well
The sliders in strong drafts can be genuine though.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Big question with Molier is his tank. Build that up and he'll be a monster, someone that size shouldn't be that fast and his ruck work is genuinely really good. He was also a key forward before becoming a ruck so it's not like he'd just be resting there.
Will take some time to develop as he's a bit of a raw prospect but he's an appealing one.Comment
