Re: 2024 Draft Watch
I know The Doctor mentioned a power play to move right up the order by packaging up pick 17 with a future first round pick and while that might not be an option now could we talk to the Tigers and offer pick 35 and a future 1st for say pick 18?
That would give the Tigers a better pick to use on Sam Davidson and also give them something extra for next year.
Based on what I have read here pick 18 could open up a whole lot of options for us in terms of balancing midfielders and taller players.
Can someone set me straight and let me know if I'm off the mark?Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
In Doc's example he was doing it to target a particular player...I don't think you'd do it to 'open up the draft' but if there was someone who the recruiters were convinced we 'have to get' then I would understand it.
Doc said to do it for Reid...What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
My takeaways are that he's not as slow as writeups seem to indicate. It's encouraging that he had a big tackle in the middle and some fend offs/ navigating traffic but if he's going to be an inside mid at AFL level I'm not sure I saw many contested possessions which others have mentioned is a prominent indicator that a young talent might struggle with the step up to AFL level[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

I'd like to get one of the Whitlocks, Shanahan or Trainor if we had the right pick to do so.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
Physicality definitely is not shown in any of the footage i've seen, which is a little concerning. Hard to gauge however whether that's due to him not wanting contact, or more so just him playing to his skills / coaching of being the outlet player who distributes the ball. We likely would have sussed that out in interviews, so i'll be comfortable if we do pick him. If it's just a matter of changing his mindset a little to go after the loose ball harder, we'll have a gem. Yet to be seen though.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
So Twomey has us talking Cooper Hynes and Christian Moraes with our first two picks.
Cooper Hynes
The Bulldogs are right in the hitting zone of a few talls, but that's the last thing they need so they'll be seeing if one of the top-line midfielders or small forwards can get through. Hynes pieced together a consistent season complete with some very big games among them. The strong-bodied and powerful midfielder averaged 24 disposals for the Stingrays and also kicked 15 goals to finish second in the Morrish Medal. He can turn games in the middle of the ground with his explosiveness and around goal he has good craft to out-body opponents as well as mark above his head.
If not him? Clubs believe the Bulldogs would swoop if Murphy Reid was available, with Joe Berry also in that basket. If Taj Hotton was there he would also be hard to pass up as a forward/midfield gun.
Christian Moraes
Moraes put his magnet on draft boards last season when he blitzed as a bottom-ager with the Eastern Ranges, showing his class in shifting forward and going on daring runs from the wing. He averaged 24 disposals and booted 18 goals from 12 games this year, including a five-goal haul late in the season, and knows how to use the ball to create and open up space for teammates. He has a good footy brain and runs hard – he finished top-10 in the 2km time trial at the Combine.
If not him? Ollie Hannaford or Jesse Dattoli are a chance to be available, as is Cooper Hynes through to the Dogs' second pick if they look elsewhere at their first.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
So we're mostly linked to high half forwards who can rotate through the middle. Reid worries me as we just moved on two slow players who struggled to impact the game defensively. He looks very talented but in that video he was very outside for the most part.Comment

Re: 2024 Draft Watch
When I'm wrong I'm usually wrong BIG so let's hope we get him...I haven't felt this down about a pick till we selected a slow, soft half back flanker from Vic Metro. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment
