    Re: 2024 Draft Watch

The league has already warned clubs against any side deals in trades which would see them overlooking players like Ashcroft in the draft in return for preferable treatment in other deals to come.

      Re: 2024 Draft Watch

Fox Footy have released their Phantom Draft

PICK 20: WESTERN BULLDOGS ? MURPHY REID

      Position: Midfielder/medium forward

      Size: 181cm

      Clubs: Sandringham Dragons/South Melbourne Districts

      AFL player comparison: Harry Sheezel

      Foxfooty.com.au Draft Power Rankings: 7

Reid has split opinions of AFL club recruiters all year, but his class is undeniable. While he?s not the tallest or quickest midfielder in the draft class, Reid is one of the shrewdest and most composed in traffic, while he?s also added forward craft to his trick bag, highlighted by his three-goal, 31-disposal for Vic Metro against South Australia. Against the Allies in tough, wet conditions, Reid was the cleanest player on the field, finishing with 24 disposals, 12 contested possessions, six score involvements and five intercepts on his way to claiming Vic Metro?s MVP award.

In the mix/trade watch: This is probably the latest Reid will get picked, for there?s every chance he?s off the board by now. The Bulldogs are anticipated to target a forward-half player with one of their first few selections ? and it?s unlikely to be a tall. Many believe Reid will start his AFL career as a half-forward. Other draft prospects in the mix would include Dandenong Stingrays star Cooper Hynes, as well as Jesse Dattoli or Ollie Hannaford, while they?d also closely look at Taj Hotton or Joe Berry if either of them slid. There have also been suggestions the Bulldogs could look at a key defender ? which would bring Matt Whitlock and even Luke Trainor into the conversation ? but that would more likely be with their second-round pick.

        Re: 2024 Draft Watch

Would any posters try and trade up our current 1st rounder and F1 to grab a player like Joe Berry or someone else in the mid part of the first round?

He sounds exactly like the type of player we need and who would come in and play immediately and we are so close it hurts.

I like Reid. Be happy with that.

Re: Jaques, saw him in person recently. Geez he is a skinny lad! Are there any concerns about his size?

Certainly very impressive from a leadership point of view, helping the Falcons through a challenging year to finish top of the ladder and winning the b&f. Will he be able to play on the smaller forwards (like a Charlie Cameron, Stengle type)?

                  No thanks.
Trading up is fraught with danger. Plenty of people wanted to sell the farm to trade up from pick 4 to pick 1 in the Tom Boyd / Bontempelli draft.

Last year was different as we were trying to get ahead of a Croft bid.

Reid has split opinions of AFL club recruiters all year, but his class is undeniable. While he’s not the tallest or quickest midfielder in the draft class, Reid is one of the shrewdest and most composed in traffic, while he’s also added forward craft to his trick bag, highlighted by his three-goal, 31-disposal for Vic Metro against South Australia. Against the Allies in tough, wet conditions, Reid was the cleanest player on the field, finishing with 24 disposals, 12 contested possessions, six score involvements and five intercepts on his way to claiming Vic Metro’s MVP award.

In the mix/trade watch: This is probably the latest Reid will get picked, for there’s every chance he’s off the board by now. The Bulldogs are anticipated to target a forward-half player with one of their first few selections – and it’s unlikely to be a tall. Many believe Reid will start his AFL career as a half-forward. Other draft prospects in the mix would include Dandenong Stingrays star Cooper Hynes, as well as Jesse Dattoli or Ollie Hannaford, while they’d also closely look at Taj Hotton or Joe Berry if either of them slid. There have also been suggestions the Bulldogs could look at a key defender – which would bring Matt Whitlock and even Luke Trainor into the conversation – but that would more likely be with their second-round pick.

Later on they make mention of:

Some of the players in the above phantom draft could slip through to night two, including Ollie Hannaford, Cooper Hynes and Harry Oliver. Hannaford has been linked to the Western Bulldogs, but more at their second-round selection (Pick 25), while Gold Coast and Port Adelaide (Pick 29) have also flagged interest in the GWV Rebel, as well as Oliver and Hynes.

The Bulldogs also have interest in slider duo Christian Moraes and Tom Gross

GWV Rebels wing-midfielder Jack Ough, who put himself on the radar with a strong finish to his 2024 campaign, has lots of clubs with second-round picks circling, including Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and the GWS Giants. Collingwood would also consider Ough if he slipped through to its first pick.

Key defender Luke Trainor, who’s slid down draft boards in recent months, has late first-round interest from Sydney and Richmond, but the Bulldogs will ponder picking him should he still be on the board come the second night. Geelong is another who could trade up the order for Trainor.

Also Dattoli and Hynes are getting regularly linked with us, how did they test?

It doesn't matter how many times I remind myself that his surname is not pronounced off, my brain continues to read it as off. Nickname the Master?
