He's okay from but it's not the most exciting of selections from my perspective. I do rate his versatility though.
I'm pretty open minded to a lot of the names being mentioned. The 2nd and 3rd picks could be the real story for us as it will go a long way in determining if we've had a good draft or not.

There was a lot of talk of Richmond having too many picks for one draft and perhaps wanting to trade.

Any chance they drop us a pick for our 1st next year?

I don't like that Moraes was excellent in 2023 and less excellent this year...Dalrymple was always very much in favour of players who improved in their draft year, and led to great outcomes for us.

Is he a high quality slider who played a different role this year (24 disposals ave and 17 goals isn't BAD?!?), or someone to be concerned about?

Worried about Hynes athletic traits particularly considering we took Sanders last year and just where our overall list is it at in that area.

He does have a little right footed Clay Smith about him.

He had a bit of a role change this year which limited some of his numbers. He played some very impressive games later in the year. We might be able to better at 30 but he's got a lot of upside He has just turned 18.

I'd probably trade our future 1st for one of their late first rounders. I wonder if they'd do our future 1st for 18 or like 35 and something for 24. Getting two hits in a row in an event draft is pretty good.

Moraes is very young though...must be amongst the youngest in that 'second' group...

I suspect after last year he kind of took some 'stuff' for granted early doors.

Rhys seems more a mid shoved forward (like a lot of kids, to be fair).
Hynes seems to have some genuine goal-nous and I'd expect him to be a bit more damaging ahead of the ball. Probably has a lot of work to do (multiple pre-seasons) before he gets any CBA time, not sure his endurance is up there.

Thanks to you and G for responding.

It sounds like it might be a case of his underage year was particularly outstanding, rather than his top age year being bad? I'm coming round to it.

It was frustrating in Twomeys draft that a lot of the names that had excited me for various reasons (Hannaford, Oliver, Berry, Hotton, Alger) were taken just before our picks.

Not related to us, but I really love Langford's highlights. Based on very little I'm all chips in on him being the 10 year redraft number one.

Twomeys draft predictions has left some Saints mates baffled and very disappointed. They were wanting mids more than defenders.
They're really lamenting the win in R24 that moved them up the order.

My personal dislike aside, Twomey is very good at this mock draft thing (very, very good) and whilst loose lips sink ships, it seems it doesn't matter to recruiters who every year spill the beans as to who they will be selecting...so I'm assuming he's on the money here - after all, he pretty much always is.

I have been pondering this for a couple of hours now and am still pretty curious as to why we would select this player as the partner for Sanders in our midfield of the future. I would have thought - in fact, I'm 100% certain - that the move of Richards to the mids this year should have sent a clear message to the footy dept that you need CLASS not grunt to be a difference maker in an AFL midfield. I actually admire a lot about Hynes game - I actually think he could develop into a Dunkley 'type' over time (I know, don't mention the war) but I'm not sure that moves the needle UNLESS you have Lachie Neale, Hugh McCluggage and Cam Raynor to put cream on the cake. Certainly it didn't get us over the top when we had Bont alongside the grunt/single pace of Liber and Macrae...

I'm not against the selection of Hynes - he can certainly win the footy and really does compete - but do think we need to be thinking about Hynes 'LATER' and trying to add another player with a bit of extra class at this pick...

I don't know if anyone else picks him in the top 30??

November's mock draft from AFL (today), FoxSports (today), Zero Hanger(Nov 16) and SEN (3 days ago). Last column is ESPN Nov Power ranking. Zero Hanger got pick swap between RIC and NM.

I wouldn't mind betting that this is the most nervous Twomey has been with his selections for a long while. Just one or two picks going sideways could change the whole order.

Regarding Hynes, I really struggle to project how players that are 190cm tall and move between forward and midfield duties are likely to go at the senior level. With Davis who's the same height I see someone who can hold his spot as a forward and see the potential that he might in time move into some midfield duties. Hynes might be okay as a forward but he's unlikely to command a spot there on a full time basis. He could however be a good resting forward after stints in the midfield.
The Dunkley comparison is a good one and most teams can do with a Dunkley.

Hynes isn't that quick, he didn't do well in the endurance test earlier in the season and his kicking skills aren't much better that average but perhaps that's being a but harsh. He's not very agile and doesn't take big marks.
He's bull strong though and sticks his tackles so there are some things to work on for the club.

Yes. But until you KNOW he's a Dunkley and not 'just' another tall(ish) contested ball winner, do you want to pay a premium?

I think we can do better at pick 20 but won't be disappointed if we end up selecting him.
