Yep, plus draft picks don't have the experience nor do state league players even mature agers at AFL level, who can be very hit and miss.

Can you imagine the Cats or Lions considering not signing Treloar after one bad year? When he has played he has been AFL quality.

If he's the 44th player on our list we're doing exceptionally well. Slow build in to next year, get him cherry ripe for the second half of 2026.

On Tony Scott, I've always been a fan and he was great in the VFL yesterday but I think going out on a high with a VFL flag would be fitting.

Rather a speculative pick over a proven going no where pick

We shouldn't hesitate in offering Treloar another year. I get the concerns that others have raised but I'd back him to do a good job for us.

As amazing as Kennedy was as a recruit this year, he showed that he can't deliver that offensive drive and quality sustainably. Adam Treloar can when fit and I feel he's earned one more year.
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Treloar definitely keep, Scott though is the definition of deadwood. If things are going so badly with injuries etc that he’s getting games then we may as well play the kids. There’s that many ahead of him now in the mid/fwd roles

Scott is very unlucky in that his concussions (especially against Sydney mid last year) have ruined any chance of pressing for a run of games in the last 18 months, and also for his timing at currently being out of contract. He has been by far the best performed player for Footscray the last 4-6 weeks of the season, and on form alone deserves a 12 month contract IMO (let alone what a quality person he seems to be around the group).

At worst, we should delist and re-rookie him. It's not like we are blessed with amazing depth with high half forwards or small/mid defenders. Whilst Scott is a midfielder first, he is a proven commodity at AFEL level in other roles - he was simply out of sight and out of mind whilst he was going through his long recovery from concussion. He deserves a new contract on form alone, probably more deserving that some that are currently under contract.

What's he going to cost - minimum chips and 12 months for what essentially would be the last list spot.

Interesting that they indicate Baker as a likely ‘going’. He had a good back end of the season thus thinking he will likely be retained.

Scott's contribution to the club shouldn't be seen as a list clogger or deadwood
His concussion history is the biggest concern and it's why it's probably time to let him go.
Despite a fine game on the weekend he's not a best 23 type player if we have anything close to a healthy list.
Next season we will push the development of Dolan and Hynes as HF and midfield players so chances for Scott as minimal.

I noted that too. I'd keep Baker ahead of Poulter if I had to choose.

In a 'normal' year he'd probably be delisted. Given this years' draft depth, a 12 month deal may be considered as a rookie. It's line-ball.

Most of us would think he's done enough for another season and I think he has shown a bit more than Poulter.
He's been with us for 3 years after 3 years at Melbourne without really establishing himself as a senior player. Perhaps that tells the story.
FWIW, I'd keep him for another season.

He’s unlucky, but the concussions is also a part of the package now and another reason why it’s probably time for him to move on.

List spots are tight, we’re already short one spot (Walker) and I believe we have to upgrade JOD now maybe. Off the list we have Buku, Marra, Doc and I’d suggest we’ll likely bring in at least 2 players (ie a Butts & Budarick type or DFA)

Id happily lose Coffield, Poulter & JJ before Scott and personally I’d keep Jones but that seems unlikely. I’d want at least 4 draft picks - 3 at the draft and 1 left over for preseason train on or MSD. So depends on how many mature players we bring in I guess, realistically VDM & McNeil should be the mature depth next year so he really shouldn’t be getting a look in.

What about as a smaller/mid sized lockdown defender? With Doc retiring, we literally don't have any purely lockdown smaller/mid sized defenders on the list (with the possible exception of Cleary). Gallagher should be trialled there IMO and I think Scott could also make this position his own. Agree wholeheartedly that the concussion issue is the biggest problem for Scott getting a new contract.

As for high half forward, I would back Scott to be able to contribute more in this area than VDM or McNeill if he had a strong and uninterrupted pre-season - it's a role he's performed well at AFEL level previously (long time ago to be fair). And I would say we need more high half forwards in the team every week than less - I don't see Dolan/Hynes as either/or options.

It's tight and I get why Scott might be delisted. I really feel sorry for him as he hasn't had a clear run at it for 2-3 years now through no fault of his own.
