#15 Daniel Talia - suprise suprise

Daniel Talia recruited from Assumption College/Calder Cannons
      Height 195cms
Weight: 79kgs unofficially he is meant to be 90kgs there was a mix up with his younger brothers weight)
Kicking efficiency in Vic versus SA 72.5
      Disposal efficiency 78.5.

Grandson of Footscray Premiership Player, Talia is suprisingly quick for his height. Play him at either end - he has a good defensive side to his game, and if he can't mark will bring it to ground.

We can dream, but I just cant see Talia falling to us.

            Port Power #16 - Mark Hutchings - 180cm, 82kgs
After taking a real best available approach with a tall/mid combination in mind, we were happy to follow a similar approach here. We were hopeful Talia would fall, however once he hadn't it became a 3 horse race, between Hutchings, McMillian-Pittard and Crichton. McMillian-Pittard was probably seen as the 'best' player, but adding more grunt is a greater priority than run and carry.

Hutchings is a good inside - outside player, and his outside work is probably underrated imo. His foot skills are tidy, he attacks the contest and runs hard outside in space. Inside he's strong over the ball and good with his hands, and also the quick release kick to advantage. We're confident we can grab a few run and carry developing types in the rookie draft, so the other upside of Hutchings will be his ability to play a role immediately in 2010. Along with Harlett, Boak and Cunnington, the midfield mix looks very good.

We are now done for the draft, (although I may sneak another pick in at the end if someone I like is still available), and are very happy with our 3 first round selections. (Butcher, Cunnington and Hutchings).
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

                  Richmond #19

                  Jordan Gysbert

The Tigers take another good sized midfielder.

Gysberst doesn't possess the x-factor that Morabito does however, he will be a solid player capable of filling a variety of positions.

                        Matthew Panos

Bonzer! Was scared of risking taking Vardy with pick 11 for the very reason that Matt wouldn't be around, but in the end my plan has all come together beautifully. Although slightly undersized (192cm) for a power forward (not that it matters according to some of our more informed posters ), Panos, who has very strong hands and is a good set shot kick, is one of the top key forwards in this draft, and helps adress one of Melbourne's key problem areas.

2 gun mids, a ruckman and a good key forward prospect. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

You have done OK Happy Days. 2 good midfielders capable of playing senior football next year and 2 developing talls.

I like the Vardy pick and I think it's quite realistic. With the lack of talls and certain teams needs, players like Vardy might well be taken earlier than they otherwise would be. Their ruck department is pretty average but their midfield stocks look very good. They can afford to take a player like Vardy. Makes sense - even if there's 'better' players available.

FWIW it helps The Dogs too because by us going best available (I am guessing we will) then a player of real quality might slip.

Enjoying this phantom draft so far. Keep it up guys.

A local boy in Brad Sheppard.

Rebounding half back flanker who had to decide between cricket & football.

Gets his own ball & uses it well on either foot.
