My big knock on him based on what I have seen is decision making and disposal under pressure, and whilst I think he is certainly a risk, there aren't really any others that have the upside he has. He could be the next Goodes, or the next Ray. (And I could be a 1000 miles off the mark, so don't shoot me mjp)
Tony can get things to click just fine...he just doesn't always seem to think it is worth his while.

Maybe getting away from being a development player will be good for him - he just needs to be challenged to prove how good he is and stop making excuses...then again, because every club has a 1-3 year development program now maybe he wont get that and we will still be waiting to find out how good he might be in 2013.

His kicking is just fine btw. Especially when the goals are in front of him...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Essendon would be pleased to secure Ryan Bastinac as he will help them replace Lovett. He should compliment Tapscott very well as they have contrasting styles. Tapscott is a physical, big bodied player where as Bastinac is a skinny outside type at this stage. (His inside game is very good but he hasn't got the body for it at the moment). What puts Bastinac ahead of a few others is the fact that he's a very clever footballer. Awareness, reads the play, fantastic at ground level and makes good decisions with the ball in hand. His skills are pretty polished on both sides of his body too. As said earlier, Bastinac's inside game is very good. He's good at the clearances and can find the ball - he just needs to put weight on. If he does/can, he'll give Essendon a lot of versatility (ditto Tapscott). He always has time on his side, especially in traffic - this should hold him in good stead for AFL footy. Very much a team player that would be able to fit into the Dons dynamics and perform consistently well. Essendon have plenty of pace but have lacked players with poise, smarts and skill - Bastinac has all three. He's an elite runner (Top 5% at DC for both the beep test/3km run) which will appeal to the Dons too.

So far, Essendon would be very pleased. Tapscott addresses their need for physical mids, whilst Bastinac addresses their poise/skill/class issues. Both should do well at AFL level and are certainly capable of having an impact up forward.

          Pick 25: Ben Griffiths - 198cm / 99kg

My second Eastern Ranges pick in a row!

Griffiths is a tricky one. On the one hand, he's an absolute beast with a thumping kick and impressive mobility for a kid his size. Suprisingly quick, he's well suited to a key forward role rather than as a full time ruckman.

On the other hand, he's injury prone and inconsistent.

With Hale stagnating, Petrie used as a the Mr-Fix-It and Robbie Tarrant's shoulders hanging by a thread, North probably need to take a big forward with this pick. Griffiths is the best one left at this stage.

Troy Taylor is an exciting player capable of pulling off miracles. He's 188cm and will play as a roaming forward very similar to Liam Jurrah. He's raw and needs to fine tune much of his game, but he could become a star. His vertical leap is fantastic and this enables him to take a lot of strong impressive marks. He's a clever player with deft taps and one handed pick-ups. His skills are OK but like his form it's a little inconsistent. He's got serious X Factor though and could become anything. He's an Essendon pick if I've ever seen one. Speed, agility and magic is how I'd describe him. One moment he'll pull off a freakish act you wouldn't think he'd be able to do, the next he'll make an ordinary mistake. He is certainly worth the risk though and is the type of player Essendon really need in their forward half. An injection of a Motlop/Jurrah/Buddy type clone. He's got a criminal record by all reports, but has recently concentrated on footy and been able to get his life back on track. Essendon will be very excited about this kid.

Needs to build plenty of muscle, needs experience and some fine tuning. However - he's an excitement machine and I would love The Dogs to take a look at him if he slides to us.

I really like Crichton, despite not having a standout year. He's light, but he's more than capable of winning his own ball and is fast enough to play outside as well. A very good tackler for his size, I can actually see him playing a few games next year depending on who picks him up.

He's one of a handful I'd be looking at for the Bulldogs second pick.

Quality player. Good mark for his size and has a long kick.

Still some good players that haven't been selected yet. The depth of the draft is holding up OK so far.
