I personally would love to get Tex Walker but I think it would be pretty tough to pry him from Adelaide.

I get that he isn't the answer but we do need assistance to help fix some of the problems we have faced this year. He is a very good mark and capable of playing in a few positions which is something we need. Pick 5 for Reid would be silly but thats why I added a caveat that we get something back that evens things out.

Patton is out of contract at the end of the year. GWS are going to suck again next season. Some of his mates will be leaving during this year's trade period and more will leave next year, so the peer pressure thing isn't such a big issue. Dom Tyson has already come out in the media saying GWS players should look elsewhere.

Throw our first pick at GWS (likely 5-9), offer a large-long term contract to Patton and just get it done.
I think you might be in the majority on the expectations for next year.

I like your analysis and maybe next year is the best year to have a real crack at one of the GWS boys.

Like Darling, for the cost I don't see Walker as the type we need, we have a few mid sized leading forwards in Stringer, Grant, Crameri, we really need that gorilla power forward to compliment what we already have imo, someone that will create contests but also pluck big marks.

Sam Day is another to consider however I don't believe he's in the same class as Boyd, Patton or Cameron.

As I said in BT's thread, realistically pick 5 + Higgins might be all we get to play with, otherwise it does too much damage to club culture and the loyalty of other players. And that assumes Higgins wants out but agrees to let us trade him where we want to. For that, you might get Sam Reid, Aaron Black, Sam Day, Kristian Jaksch, Adam Tomlinson. Probably not Tom Boyd, Jonathon Patton, Jeremy Cameron, Tom Lynch, Jesse Hogan.

If we're going to break the rules, what about pick 5 + Libba for Tom Hawkins
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Always very hard to part with someone on your list that hasn't reached their potential. It will be the same for GWS which is why I didn't initially suggest targeting one of their boys. They will regard Cameron, Patton and Boyd in the same light we hold Bonts and Macrae and it's why I'm suggesting we would need to add more than pick 4,5 or 6 to get a deal done.

Do we make a pitch for Jack Riewoldt?

Sam Day is one that I think would make a very good CHB. What's he worth to us?

Another angle to look at: where is the next Jay Schultz? Young and underperforming, undervalued by this current club and won't cost the farm but has the ability to slot in a play a big role in a new environment (and don't say Liam Jones ).

I agree that they are the sort of players around the mark that we 'might' be able to get a side to part with.

Wouldn't that give them something to think about? Couldn't do it myself.

Schultz is 29 and I think Port really appreciate him.

He wasn't 29 when they picked him up on the cheap from Richmond though...

I wasn't clear enough: which young forward should we target that could replicate the career Schultz has carved out at Port after Richmond lost patience.

                        Good point that I missed.

Is Robbie Tarrant worth a punt?

Very injury prone, but also can play when fit and wouldn't break the bank.

A player who interests me is Jeremy McGovern of West Coast. Impressed with what I have seen this year.
Has kicked 13 goals from 6 games this year while not playing key forward. 195cm and 96 kilos. Whether West Coast would let him go I have no idea. Only 22 years old. Takes a good overhead mark and good shot for goal.
