Re: What are you watching at the moment

    Anyone watching Perry Mason.

Loosely based on the 1960s show, however, this time Perry is a private detective working for a law firm, whereas the 60s show he was a lawyer.

I've just recently binged the 1st series and started the 2nd.

I think its amazingly well done, and hilarious!
I'm a big fan of Taika Waititi and the vast majority of his movies (Shadows is the funniest, Boy is the best though).

I am very sceptical and annoyed when the US take a successful TV show and adapt/Americanise it, The Office being a great example where they failed to match the originals quality (and yet is now recognised as the default and superior version).

I've only seen the first few episodes of the Shadows adaptation, but I was very impressed and really captures the vibe of the movie well. Even Matt Berry who I typically find annoying (IT Crowd/Mighty Boosh) is actually pretty good in it.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I think the fact that Jemaine Clemente and Taika Waititi are still heavily involved in the series, they've managed to keep the creative intent on track.

I don't know if the movie included 'energy vampires' as well. But the main vampires in the series have one as their housemate. He doesnt feed on blood but on energy, which he harvests by being a frustrating, annoying, and innane bore. He is an office worker who feeds on his coworkers by engaging them in pointless, boring and innane conversation..

Yeah he is a new addition and I thought the weakest of the lot, but I've only seen 4-5 episodes so maybe he gets better as the show goes on.

The hunt for the wilderpeople is really good too. Love his work. Sam Neil is great in it along with the young guy who plays Ricky Baker.

              He does.
But for mine Guillermo - Nandor's familiar is the one who comes to really be the scene-stealer and star of the show.

Yeah that and Jojo Rabbit are both good, but not quite on the same level as Boy and Shadows. Thor Ragnarok is probably not far off them in enjoyability also, but loses points for being a superhero franchise film and not being as charming.

There is a TV show spin off from Shadows called Wellington Paranormal which involves the two police from the movie. Its not bad Jemaine is involved on some level not sure about Taika think he's off in Star Wars land, directed the final episode of the Mandalorian and I think he's signed up for the next film.

Just started Tales from the Loop on Amazon. Pretty slick, and lovely soundtrack.

Finished watching White House Farm on ITV Hub. It is a true story of how a son killed his parents, sister and her children. 6 part series if you have access to ITV Hub. (free)

I enjoyed that Doco, but subject matter was sickening. Got what he deserved in the end, but my god, the number of girls involved was awful

I watched a movie called "Prospect" on Netflix last night. If you're a fan of understated, atmospheric sci fi you could do worse.

It's got plenty of flaws, but it's to be applauded for trying to be different.

Started watching a True Crime documentary on HBO Max called I'll Be Gone in the Dark. It is about a serial murderer/rapist who operated in California in the 70s/80s. Despite all the efforts, he was only caught a couple of years ago through DNA of a relative that came up on one of the Family Search sites. He killed 13 people and raped 50 women.
