Re: 2023/24 - Aussie domestic cricket

SA running through the VICs who are 4 for 32.
Harris chased one wide which shouldn't impress the selectors.
Delayed start due to rain but SA are bowling well.

NSW 4 for 98 vs TAS.
TAS bowler Lawrence Neil-Smith has been involved in all the wickets with 3 with the ball and one as a fieldsman.

QLD vs WA rain has stopped play with QLD 0 for 61. Renshaw 37no

I really hope the selectors move beyond Harris. Bancroft has to come into consideration before Harris.

I'm the same, he's a good cricketer but at best he is a fill in and I don't think his best cricket is in front of him.
Bancroft or Renshaw need to be the favourites for selection unless the selectors are thinking about moving Travis Head to the top of the order.

That was a real T-20 shot from Harris. Absolutely awful nothing sort of stroke. His head was nowhere near behind the line of the ball and the bat was perpendicular to the ground. It was nowhere near what you would want to see from a prospective test match opener.

Nowhere near anyone batting from 1-8 in the batting order in a test match really.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Harris is just one of those unfortunate cricketers in that he generally looks good at the level below Test, but doesn't look like a test batter. I would pass on him.

Moving Head up to open at Test level would be a courageous move. I'm not against it, especially as other than Bancroft and perhaps Renshaw there aren't a lot of the right candidates presenting who have the potential assume the job long term.

The VIC's are a fascinating team. Plenty of the players do something special but they're inconsistent.
Sam Harper was sensational with the bat yesterday and scored at a very quick rate. It wasn't all crash and bash either as most of the shots were along the ground. SA finished their innings just 26 runs below the VIC's with Jake Fraser-McGurk making a century.
Fergus O'Neill taking 5 wickets for the VIC's. Harris out cheaply in the 2nd dig.

I don't really like it to be honest. He's turned into a banker and game changer at number 5 - I think moving him to open just exposes his frailty against the moving ball. Our middle order was a huge problem area for a while, he's solved that along with Marsh at 6.

Bancroft absolutely deserves selection, he's been banging on the door for 24 months now, is a mature cricketer and gives you plenty in the field. I think the simplest solution is the best one in this case.

And Bancrofts fielding and catching ability is sensational as well.

I did grapple with the same points of weakness if you move Head. I'd certainly be giving Bancroft the first shot and then Renshaw or another bolter perhaps who steps up: Pucovski??

Some good runs from Green on a difficult wicket in Brisbane - he's currently 67* batting at number 4 (more evidence that he'll do his best work up the order for Australia).

Khawaja the only player to make runs of note so far with an unbeaten ton. Marnus made a duck, Bancroft made 7 and Jhye Richardson took 4/36 in his first Shield game in 12 months.

Tassie capitulate for 68 in the 2nd innings and lose to NSW. Tremain with 6 wickets

SA another 236 reel in VIC's lead. Currently 1 for 25. Should be an interesting final day.

WA got first innings points against QLD. Cartwright with a century.

Quick update, SA now 3 for 31. O'Neill with all 3 wickets after getting 5 in the 1st innings. He made a couple of hand 20's with the bat as well.

I've not seen O'Neil in action, but have seen he's been amongst wickets when given an opportunity.
                                Is he a decent prospect?
