Well it was great for Will to make a century no doubt especially given his challenges but the Maddison century was superior.

Double centuries don't happen a lot in the Shield so it's an impressive performance. Nice strike rate as well.

Tas get close to hosting the final by dismissing Victoria for 106 (after being 1/48) trailing by 134.

Something happened yesterday and my app said game stopped when vics were 2/51 due to unforeseen circumstances . I have no idea what it was but after that vics completely fell apart.
ATM the vics are the colliwobbles of cricket . Losing games when they mean so much eg Marsh cup and now this.

Will Pucovski retired hurt from ducking into a bouncer. Someone probably needs to take the retirement decision out of his hands and just do it.

Tend to agree, he's technique is being found out all too often. Perhaps it's time to be cruel to be kind

Disappointing end to the Shield season for Victoria, losing the last 2 games to Tassie and WA to miss the final to those 2 teams. Only 43 runs for the match v WA from the 3 most experienced batsmen in Harris, Maddinson (who had been in great form) and Handscomb was costly.

Tassie gave up a home final to WA by losing to SA in the final round.

Worth calling out Beau Wesbter for an outstanding Shield season. He's topped the run-scorers with 914 @ 65 (136 ahead of Bancroft in second) and he's also 14th on the wicket-takers list with 26 wickets @ 28 apiece.

It was a really tough year for bats - Webster, Bancroft (778 runs @ 49), McSweeney (762 runs @ 40), Ollie Davies (645 runs @ 72) and Nic Maddinson (361 runs @ 51) were the only players to make three centuries as well as average more than 40.

Webster's backed up from a good season last year when he was one of only four players to average more than 42 with the bat in the Shield.

Is he good enough to play for Australia? I'm not sure - you'd like to see him bat higher than six for his state, but he should be selected in the next Australian A squads as he's the only middle-order bat that you can point to with some consistent runs behind him.

Ollie Davies only 23. Does he seem like a national prospect or is it too early to tell?

It seemed like for years we were crying out for all rounders and now we have 2 in the test team plus quite a few promising players at first class level such as Webster, Sutherland and Hardie.

Does Webster still bowl some off spin or is he sticking with the medium pacers?

Pretty much exclusively his mediums - he was bowling first change for Tasmania at some stages, but he's more Mitch Marsh than Cam Green.

He's definitely a national prospect - he was on that conveyor belt of talented NSW underage batsman with Sangha, Doran, Edwards and now Konstas but had a great red-ball finish to the year.

I think he's benefited from some of the 'modern-thinking' around batting - he's been allowed to bat 6 and play aggressively, and it's brought the best out of him.

There will be a few challenges - he's going to have to work his way up that NSW batting order. I think as a pure batter, he needs to be in their top 4 to really be considered for higher honours, but if we're talking about him as an Australian red-ball cricketer, he looks like a natural number 5. He's also going to have to balance flicking between red-ball and white-ball cricket. He's had some good success in the BBL as well, so finding the right mix is important.

I think he has better 'gears' to his batting than someone like Fraser-McGurk - for example he made a good hundred against South Australia where he faced 160 balls where his ton the other day was virtually run a ball - so he's definitely one to watch.
