Tassie performance was pretty much the same.
Lost the last game to the bottom team to lose hosting rights.

As a Vic fan, I'm pretty content with where the side's at and think performances were really good this year.

It's the youngest attack in the country (apart from Boland) - Will Sutherland is 24 and captain, Fergus O'Neill is 23, Todd Murphy is 23 and Mitch Perry is 23. That's an attack that could be together for the next 5+ years.

Throw in Campbell Kellaway who they think is a huge talent even if he had a rough year and Harry Dixon who I think is the most talented under-19 batter in the country and you've got some excellent batting prospects too.

The dynamic has changed considerably from the 'win things and everything else will sort itself out' mind-set.

Well I hope it burns them a little so they come back hungrier next season. This year they could easily have won both but as they .. so close but so far.

Cam Bancroft out of the shield final after falling off his bike and suffering a concussion.

Big surprise for WA with Cooper Connolly in to make his debut!

Looks like Short will open the batting and Connolly into the middle order - it seemed like they were going to go with Teague Wylie at the top, but he's missed out.

WA firm favorites for mine. I just don't see this Tassie attack being able to do the business.

And he's made over 50 no. Webster just took a wicket bowling his 2nd over of spin for the summer.
                WA 7 for 295.

WA finished the day at 8 for 325 with Connolly not out on 73 which is a terrific debut.

Rocchiccioli is looking a real handful on this wicket. He's a very good young offie for those that haven't seen him - I think he's neck and neck with Murphy as next in line to Lyon.

He's a different sort of spinner - tall guy with a high action, gets excellent side spin - think Harbhajan Singh.

It's interesting the lack of coverage in the papers these days of shield cricket. There wasn't even a couple of lines in the Age about the final.
Growing up in the 70's, not only would there be shield reports but every monday's paper would have a page of district cricket scores and write ups.
I realise there's a broader coverage of other sports these days but surely a paragraph or two could be squeezed in.

Sam Elliot (son of Matthew) with 7/12 for Victoria v Tassie in the domestic one day comp.

I watched the highlights and he bowled really well. If he stays fit he could have a great summer

Unreal contest between the Vics and QLD and Neser nearly got the Bulls over the line. Great win by the Vics.

A game of swings and roundabouts , must have been a bit of a sticky wicket . Batsman only got going if they hung about a while.
Elliott is a true all rounder by the looks of it.
