Re: A League
The surface was immaculate and to walk around the arena, even with so many empty seats, was a very surreal feeling. I can only imagine what its like in the middle of the pitch when the place is full, would be a very intimidating feeling, very Colloseum-like.Comment

Re: A League
I think that's one element, there are a few.
I became a Heart fan pretty much the moment they were created. I thought I would have Victory as my 2nd side but that hasn't really worked out! There were a few reasons why I became a Heart fan:
- I was living in Perth when Victory started and only watched the first couple of seasons on TV
- My love was not for Victory, it was for football in Melbourne. I started following Victory to support the game here. As a fan of the game well and truly first, I thought it was great for Melbourne to have a 2nd team and they needed support (Victory alreay have plenty of fans, established etc).
- I feel Victory were handed Melbourne. Victory fans passion is amazing but I don't think Victory have really earnt it and are complacent. The Heart are great with fans IMO, as are their players (celebrating for ages after games etc)
- Big club/underdogs etc: Going for Dogs it's no surprise I am into the small/underdog club. Victory are A-League's Collingwood IMO.
- Muscat/Merrick/Etihad Stadium/boring style IMO: These wouldn't be big factors if I actually had passion for Victory but I just didn't enjoy watching them. I cannot stand watching games at Etihad.
- Victory fans: No offence to any here, I know heaps of them are great and really admire the way they support the game but I just found their fans negative/angry/Green St Hooligan wanabes were obsessed about their particular fan group than the actual club.Comment

Re: A League
It's more that fans are undecided. Victory were handed Melbourne. A lot of their fans were more about following football in Melbourne than following Victory.
One thing I find amusing is the delusion of many Victory fans who carry on as if they were established in 1880 out of utter football purity while Heart are a plastic franchise.
Yes we've heard it all before( merrick , Scottish long ball) interestingly you'd find Victory scored tons of goals on Merrick's watch . A team with Carlos Hernandez wasn't good to watch?
Utter RubbishComment

Re: A League
Goals aren't the be all and end all for football entertainment btw. I actually sides that move the ball quickly and use width. Carlos is just one player and outstanding of his world class ability to score from free kicks he really isn't that great to watch. Awesome for a season highlights reel but not my ideal entertainment over 90 mins. Basically a fat slug who scores an awesome goal every month.
To each their own though.Comment

I said it wasn't a big factor and would have been fine if I actually had passion for Victory.

Yeah he's been ordinary this season, yeah he's lazy but on song he controls a game.
Apologies for being "handed " Melbourne when issued a license.
Facts are MV have been the shining light and the envy of the rest of Australia, and a fact acknowledged by the Sydney centric Fox Sports Fc.
Obviously the biggest team In the state is going to get more press, and if MH get more arses on seats and keep winning this will change.Comment

Re: A League
One thing we will no doubt agree on is the despair o meter isn't in the same ballpark after an A league match in comparison to a Dog defeat.Comment

Melbourne Victory sack coach Mehmet Durakovic
MELBOURNE Victory sacked coach Mehmet Durakovic today and appointed Kevin Muscat caretaker coach for tomorrow's match against Newcastle.
A new permanent head coach is expected to be named within the next 48 hours and it will not be Muscat .
In announcing Durakovic's sacking at a press conference today, Victory chairman Anthony Di Pietro said: "After 14 games the club is in a position which is not acceptable and change is required.
"With 13 games left, we still think the club can have success this season.
"Kevin Muscat will be caretaker for (tomorrow's match) against Newcastle and he took training this morning.
"The appointment of a new head coach is imminent and an announcement will be made in the next 24 or 48 hours."
He said Muscat was not a candidate.
